Job Description : Your Title: Software Engineer (Front End)
Job Location: UK Remote
Our Department: Sefaira, SketchUp
SketchUp is currently used by millions of users annually—ranging from architects to engineering and construction firms to building and design professionals—for designing, modeling and visualizing projects. Try it out for free at app.sketchup.com. The Trimble SketchUp Habitat team builds cloud-based software for improving the design of sustainable and high-performance buildings in the conceptual phase of a project including PreDesign and Sefaira.
As a member of the Habitat engineering team, you will help us create powerful tools that help architects to improve the design and efficiency of construction projects worldwide. We are a small experienced team of engineers who are passionate about creating great software. We have an open collaborative environment where ideas are always welcome and are freely discussed. Engineers are given the autonomy to experiment, grow, and innovate. We applaud practical solutions and solid, maintainable code.
You will be a key member of a team working to both refine and grow our existing applications and help us keep our systems abreast of modern web technologies. We’re looking for someone who is highly skilled, motivated, collaborative, and who is confident to independently find solutions to problems while being humble enough to accept feedback on those ideas to bring about the best cause of action. You are experienced in building responsive, customer-facing sites using some of the most recent front end technologies. You are ready to help optimize the user experience, perform code reviews, and lean into architectural discussion. Finally, you have a ‘quality-first’ mindset, and you’re excited to roll up your sleeves for the next big challenge.
About SketchUp
Part of Trimble, SketchUp is one of the most popular 3D modeling and design tools in the world. Today, millions of architects, engineers, contractors, woodworkers, artists, and other creatives use our software to design transit centers, treehouses, and everything in between. We support a healthy work/life balance, flexible working practices and high-quality standards for the software we create.
What You Will Do
Taking feature requirements from the Product Management team, working with them to clarify and suggest alternatives where appropriate, design and implement a solution in code, work with QA to help test your code and resolve any issues, and then deploy your work to staging and production environments.
Working with back-end developers to define APIs that benefit both teams.
Collaborate with developers on our team and on other teams across SketchUp and Trimble.
Engaging with the QA team to ensure that your changes can be covered by automated testing tools.
Produce high-quality software that is unit tested and code reviewed.
Perform design and code reviews that guarantee code quality.
Maintain legacy applications with the same attention to detail and professionalism as you apply to our modern applications.
What Skills & Experience You Could Bring
BSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent experience.
Solid foundation in developing client applications.
JavaScript/TypeScript development (we primarily use TypeScript and Angular, but also JavaScript and Vue.js).
CSS and responsive design.
Understanding of API and integrating front-ends with backend service architecture.
Interest in developing UIs and working with the UX designer.
You will be working in an agile scrum environment along with back-end developers creating RESTful web services and RabbitMQ based analysis services using the functional programming paradigm in Scala. We have a product written from scratch using modern web technologies and are also progressively transforming our legacy systems to a more modern architecture.
Other key technologies in use in the team: Cypress.io, Fitnesse, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Datadog, Sentry.io, Sumologic, AWS, Python, Ruby, InstallShield, C#, Mac Packages. We offer training and assistance if you’re interested in improving your skills in these areas.
