Job Description : ETH Zurich is one of the leading universities of the world with a strong focus on science and engineering. In 2010 it established the Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC) in collaboration with the National Research Foundation (NRF) to do interdisciplinary research on pressing problems.
In collaboration with the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Duke – NUS, the National Health Group (NHG), National University Health System (NUHS), and SingHealth, SEC is undertaking a research programme on “Future Health Technologies (FHT)”. It addresses some immanent health challenges by developing a future-oriented Mobile Digital Health Concept that tackles the increase in patients suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity and stroke, as a consequence of a rapidly ageing population with mobile digital technologies, covering the value chain from acute care to patient’s private homes.
Project background
FHT is collecting health-related data at the participant’s home and delivering digital health solutions using mobile apps (e.g. conversational agent (chatbot), gait analysis, gamified rehabilitation protocols), robotic assessment and therapy devices (e.g., for neurorehabilitation of upper limb sensorimotor impairments), and sensors for gait analysis. To build up and maintain a secure data collection and transfer to the FHT server infrastructure, FHT is looking for an experienced Software Developer to work with an international team of researchers and technicians from ETH Zurich and multiple local partners in Singapore, including the Nanyang Technological University, the Centre of Healthy and Sustainable Cities at Nanyang Technological University (CHESS), the Saw Swee Hock School Of Public Health, and the Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).
Within this framework the SEC is has the following job opening (workplace is Singapore).
Job description
As a Software Developer in the FHT IT team, you will be responsible to
Research, design, implement, test and manage software for the FHT research programme.
Deliver technical project management for FHT research activities at SEC including project planning activities, requirements engineering, effort estimates, on-site and remote exchange with several research partners.
Develop secure web applications and mobile apps for data collection and mobile health interventions including interfaces to endpoints such as sensors or robotics as well as secure transfer to the FHT server infrastructure.
Enable data exchange between multiple robotic technologies and develop graphical user interfaces that can display these data in an intelligent manner to clinical personnel and patients
Deploy and improve the MobileCoach platform (www.mobile-coach.eu) at Singapore-ETH Centre and offer technical support to ongoing studies.
Interact with FHT System Engineer(s), Scientific IT Services at ETH Zurich, FHT management, security/privacy specialists, and end users/researchers

You are interested in open source projects, user interface design, mobile app development incl. management of the app submission process, data management, continuous integration, privacy enhancing technologies and development. You can present technical complex aspects in a concise and easy to understand way. You are looking for a sustainable and meaningful job to support healthcare systems, healthcare workers and individuals in need, i.e. to use scalable technology to prevent or better manage the global burden of chronic conditions and mental illness, and to use robotic technologies to improve neurorehabilitation outcomes in persons with a stroke. You are proactive, communicative and you show personal responsibility, initiative and enjoy technology and interdisciplinary teamwork. You can work autonomously and with a self-starter attitude.
