Job Description : About usJinja DEAF (Deaf Education Access Fund) is a charity supporting the education of deaf children and young people in Jinja District, Uganda. We promote equal access to education and employment with a focus on quality sign- bilingual education and promote activities which foster understanding and inclusion within their families and communities. Our current activities include funding full-time sign language instructors and interpreters in schools, providing grants for learning materials and sponsoring sign language and inclusion workshops for parents and educators. For these young people, this support means the difference between gaining an education, fluent communication, opportunities and social relationships, and staying home in isolation, devalued and without language or hope for change.About the roleWe are looking to recruit a treasurer to take over money matters. This means arranging payments to Uganda of termly salaries and school fees, arranging gift aid tax claims, assessing and paying valid expenses, monitoring donation receipts, producing quarterly accounts and submission of annual accounts to the Charity Commission. The treasurer is a trustee, so of course a participant in all trustee discussions and decisions. Our retiring treasurer is available to provide a detailed handover and be an initial support to the incoming post-holder.Our board of trustees meet three to six times per year in London or remotely and communicate by email in the interim. We plan fundraising, steer administrative decisions and closely monitor activities and spending to ensure responsible scrutiny of funds. All trustees are volunteers, and we have no office so all money raised by our generous supporters is directed to our activities.About YouIf you have some basic experience in financial control systems and would love to make a big difference to a small charity, then we would really like to hear from you. Ideally a commitment of at least three years would be welcomed.ApplyPlease send your CV and cover letter outlining your interest and why your experience is relevant by Friday 1st April.Job Types: Part-time, VolunteerApplication deadline: 01/04/2022
