Remuneration is dependent on qualifications:
Counsellor Level 3: $102,500.00 – $105,932.00 per annum
Social Worker Level 3: $102,500.00 – $105,932.00 per annum
Psychologist: $69,482.00 – $103,282.00 per annum

About The Opportunity
The Aboriginal Staff Counsellor is a new and exciting role that will play a key role in supporting Aboriginal employees at South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD). The position will be based within the Staff Wellbeing and Support Service, and play a pivotal role in supporting Aboriginal Health Staff and will be supported by the SWSLHD Aboriginal Health Unit. You Work with a supportive team in a dynamic & diverse Health District.
The Aboriginal Staff Counsellor will be linked into the broader SWSLHD Aboriginal Health Service for support and will have access to cultural and clinical supervision and a range of professional development opportunities.

What you’ll be doing
The Aboriginal Staff Counsellor (EAP) will provide a range of culturally responsive support services to Aboriginal staff employed by SWSLHD and their families. Services will include short-term, confidential, solution focused counselling and where appropriate, case management support across a range of presenting wellbeing and psychosocial issues. The position will work closely with staff to link them with community based services that will provide longer term support. The Aboriginal Staff Counsellor will be based in the Staff Wellbeing and Support Service but will have direct links with the Aboriginal Health Unit and Aboriginal Workforce Team.
The Aboriginal Staff Counsellor (EAP) will partner with SWSLHD’s Aboriginal Staff Networks based at each Facility to promote the available services and provide soft referral pathways into the SWSLHD Staff Wellbeing and Support Service. The position will provide proactive support to staff engaged in the Aboriginal traineeship, cadetship and graduate management programs. The position will also be required to liaise with key stakeholders and collaborate with other LHD business units, Provide consultancy with Managers at every level towards addressing work-related issues, promoting employee wellbeing, and delivering post incident trauma support (psychological first aid), advisory and counselling to staff when required. This position assists the LHD meet the requirements of “Employee Assistance Programs: NSW Health “(PD2016_045) and ACHS Accreditation standards.

This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of intergenerational trauma on Aboriginal communities, Aboriginal concepts of social and emotional well-being and experience delivering therapeutic interventions to Aboriginal clients and their families.
Demonstrated experience in providing high quality clinical short-term interventions to address a broad range of personal and work related issues, via a number of modalities (e.g.: face to face, phone, online) that are culturally responsive and specific to the needs of Aboriginal clients.
Demonstrated extensive experience in providing critical incident support and psychological first aid with both individuals and groups following a traumatic work related incident or event.
Demonstrated understanding and application of quality improvement principles.
Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member as well as independently, and the ability to be flexible and adaptable.
Highly developed ICT skills adequate for general business and service improvement including report writing, clinical case management, program/project development, seminar presentations, online platforms and app based programs and other organisational activities.
Current unrestricted Australian drivers licence (P2 Licence Acceptable) subject to obtaining NSW drivers licence within 3 months of appointment.
