The Cloud Practice is the team that builds large infrastructure for a wide-ranging and diverse set of customers. We help them choose the right tools and services, build highly scalable secure infrastructure and help them manage the maintenance of those environments. We come up with creative solutions to difficult problems and every engineer gets to have a large direct impact on each of those customers.
The team is made up of engineers from all around the country in distributed teams. You can work fully remote or at any Claranet UK office – most people choose a combination of the two. As one of the Cloud Solution Engineers, your main role is to understand some of the challenges that are felt in the engineering and delivery team. You will be taking these challenges and creating repeatable solutions that are consumable by the engineering space. In addition to this you will be creating new technical solutions based on customer demand and emerging technologies. You’ll drive decision-making, solution adoption, and creative thinking in the team and help define, shape, and improve how the wider engineering teams works.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Collaborating with engineering and solution architect teams to evaluate and identify optimal cloud solutions.
Modifying and improving existing systems.
Educating teams on the implementation of new cloud technologies and initiatives.
Designing, developing and deploying modular cloud-based systems.
Regularly reviewing existing systems and making recommendations for improvements.
Working with engineering teams to translate technical challenges automated solutions
Collaborating with engineering and solution architect teams to evaluate and identify optimal cloud solutions.
Identifying opportunities to deploy automation patterns
Modifying and improving existing systems.
Educating teams on the implementation of new cloud technologies and initiatives.
Designing, develop, and deploying modular cloud-based systems.
Regularly reviewing existing systems and making recommendations for improvements.
Architecture Design & Implementation
Designing and building templates to be used by the engineering team
Taking ownership of team projects and ensuring timely delivery
Helping to mentor other members of the team, delivering feedback and raising the general skill level
Keeping abreast of new technologies and changes in the industry
Providing escalation assistance to the support team
About You
Essential
Excellent, in-depth knowledge of at least one Cloud platform and associated technologies
Experience of PowerShell, Bash, PaaS and IaaS infrastructure Cloud Networking, OS Administration skills
Experience of at least one of the following IaC tools
Terraform
Bicep
Arm
Demonstrate good understanding of the Azure DevOps tooling and development lifecycle
Demonstrable experience with modern configuration management tool
Experience of at least one scripting or programming language
PowerShell
NET and/or C#
Able to produce written technical content; experienced in presenting to a mixed-skilled audience.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
In addition, the following are highly desirable:
Basic knowledge of both Windows and Linux
Experience with more than one hyper-scaler platform
Experience of AWS CloudFormation
Experience with HashiCorp tooling

You will be expected to deliver large-scale cloud transformation projects
You’ll shadow and mentor other engineers to help them progress complex team projects
You’ll engage with key stakeholders in technical and commercial conversations
You’ll be able to demonstrate and convey technical solutions to technical/non-technical audiences
You’ll be able to produce/maintain written technical content
You’ll be required to present content to a mixed-skilled audience
Able to work autonomously, identifying and prioritising tasks; experienced enough to know when to seek input from others
Principal Cloud Solutions Engineer

You will deliver projects on multiple Cloud Platforms
You will be expected to collaborate with other Claranet teams in developing/delivering project plans
You’ll be expected to mentor other engineers on use of good coding practices and standards
You’ll be able to demonstrate leadership and stakeholder management
You’ll ensure the team delivers efficient and clear multi-medium technical content
You’ll work with the Team Lead and/or Practice Director to shape the team and technology strategy
