Reporting Relationship:
The Corporate Communications Manager at our corporate headquarters in Madison, MS. will report directly to the Senior Vice President, Chief People Officer and will focus on building and maintaining a positive public image through various communication mediums and methods. Establish brand management by monitoring Vertex and other industry related media coverage, leverage tools to measure and report analytics to assess reputational risk. Supports key initiatives to promote and achieve a culture of service excellence and employee engagement.
Principal Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Develops and publishes creative internal communications content across multiple communication mediums (including social platforms), in a timely, impactful, effective manner to support the Vertex culture and employee engagement.
Serve as a key corporate spokesperson on a wide range of corporate topics including brand management, customer service, community relations, industry-specific themes, and regulatory compliance issues.
Serve as external and internal communication strategist in support of corporate initiatives.
Maintains a public relations program designed to create and maintain favorable public image for the company: Plans and directs development and communication of information designed to keep public informed of employer’s programs, accomplishments, and formal response to media inquiries.
Prepare and coach executives and senior leaders to serve as spokespersons in preparation for interviews.
Utilize social media platforms to enhance the company brand to prospective customers and employees.
Ensure employees are apprised of key events and significant business initiatives.
Coordinate, support and/or conduct tours of sites as required to build visibility for the company and strengthen the brand.
Assist in managing media presence during on-site events and drafting of materials for media relations use such as press releases, fact sheets, presentations and web pages.
Represent the company in community relations activities and support the division’s Community Relations plan.
Supports key initiatives to promote and achieve a culture of service excellence and employee engagement thru the communication of On-The-Spot Awards, Achievement Awards, Mission Excellence Awards and our Health and Wellness Program.
Coordinates with Marketing and Diversity & Inclusion to develop press releases and feature/thought leadership articles aligned with their initiatives
Provides internal company-wide communication for all departments
Manages internal communication mediums, i.e. Vertex SharePoint, MyHR, Employee App, TV Monitors
Provides policy guidance and training for social media etiquette
Maintains the highest ethical personal and professional standards.
Other projects and initiatives as assigned.
Professional Requirements, Qualifications & Competencies:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications or related field AND 4+ years of primary experience in writing, communications and public relations OR education/experience equivalence.
Strategic, analytical and project management skills.
Ability to lead up and across the organization.
Strong attention to detail and high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office & related software solutions.
Thorough, proven understanding of media relations and public relations principles.
Experience writing in AP style and developing communications on behalf of executive leaders.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Crisis communications / issues management experience.
Familiarity with Aerospace & Defense, Government Contracting and Service Contract Labor Standards (formally known as the Service Contract Act -SCA) required.
Demonstrated ability to work in a customer facing role and as a collaborative member of a diverse team.
Ability to project manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
The position will require the ability to work weekends and other discretionary time as required.
The essential physical requirements of the position will be reviewed with the applicant during the interview.
Some travel will be required.
