VMware Business IT is responsible for building and maintaining applications enabling VMware business operations. You will be part of a fast paced and tightly knit DevOps SRE and Platform Services enablement team, which prides in its innovative skills and ability to deliver high-quality products in a short time span.
Team Responsibility
The team is involved in improving efficiencies in service reliability with automation, Infrastructure as Code, Observability, and other software solutions. We will be working as a small and elite team in a start-up like group within VMware. As a member of the team, you will be working on projects which are in collaboration with other IT applications development teams and R&D groups.
Role Responsibility
The DevOps/SRE Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining the delivery of services and solutions consumed by IT development teams including,
Design, develop and maintain next gen DevOps processes comprising several stages including plan, code, build, test, release, deploy, operate and monitor
Design, build and maintain the CI/CD infrastructure and tools to deliver SaaS and on-prem solutions
Design and develop automation to validate the builds in the CI/CD pipelines
Work closely with development teams to ensure that solutions are designed with customer user experience, scale/performance and operability in mind
You will be actively involved in the continuous improvement of our platform and tooling, by providing input into the direction of roadmap and contributing to the development of our tooling
Function as a technical generalist responsible for the overall health and performance of the application landscape
Devise strategies to test use cases and scenarios
Implement tools to reduce overall time and increase team efficacy
Contribute to feature design for deployment in the cloud
Required Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
5+ years’ experience working in an Enterprise grade software application development environment
3+ years of experience in designing and developing automation
Strong communication skills
Passion in DevOps and strong skills in more than one scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, Angular, Shell or equivalent)
Proficient in coding and debugging in Java
Experience in developing and maintaining CI/CD process for enterprise SaaS and on-prem applications using tools like Git, P4, Jenkins, Maven, etc.
Hands on experience with NoSQL technologies (i.e., MongoDB, Redis, etc.)
Hands-on experience in build and administering Containers using tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef or Puppet
Experience with monitoring of highly scalable applications
Experience in setting up and maintaining an automation framework and tests from scratch
Demonstrable experience, with the ability to build strong working relationships with variety of teams, drive change and see projects to completion
Experience with SRE best practices, working knowledge of observability principles is a big plus
Exposure to one or more public cloud systems
