The Digital Accessibility Specialist works as a key member of the Bupa Design System team to provide accessibility related consulting, guidance, and quality assurance to ensure that all Design System outputs are compliant with best practice accessibility guidelines and standards.
You will play a key role in ensuring that the styles, components and patterns provided in the Design System are usable by as many people as possible (i.e., for users with a disability, users of mobile devices and those with slow network connections) and conforms with accessibility guidelines.
As part of the Design System team, you will help build, enhance, and optimise digital componentry that will support digital delivery of customer-facing web and app experiences across Bupa APAC.
You will also be a mentor to other accessibility related roles and assist in educating and promoting accessibility in culture and practice across Bupa APAC.
How will I help?
Key accountabilities include:
Ensure contributions to the Design System follow best practices for accessibility and meet accessibility standards, including related guidance
Liaise with the Product Owners, UX/UI designers, business analysts and technical development teams to deliver the Design System product and services that meet accessibility needs
Set the broader testing and auditing strategy for accessibility, looking at how we make effective use of manual and automated testing, internal and external audits, and user research
Performing testing activities for Design System outputs
Assist Development team members with implementation of accessibility controls and methods
Understand how upcoming changes to standards and specifications (such as WCAG, WAI-ARIA, CSS and HTML) will affect the Design System
Understand how emerging technologies and new accessibility features (such as in assistive technologies, browsers or operating systems) will affect the Design System and identify opportunities to improve accessibility
Ensure accessibility bugs and issues reported by our users are triaged, understood and prioritised appropriately
Help promote accessibility across Bupa’s Digital teams via adoption of the Design System and education of other teams

What do I need?
Strong knowledge of existing and emerging accessibility guidelines and standards, particularly the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
Familiarity with Front-End development technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WAI-ARIA and React
Familiarity with Responsive Web Design and mobile apps
Demonstrable experience of evaluating the accessibility of digital websites/components and providing feedback, advice and solutions to help fix identified issues
Strong knowledge and experience of testing with a range of assistive technologies including customised browser settings, screen magnification, screen readers, speech recognition and literacy software
Ability to interpret and advise on standards, principles and techniques for meeting accessibility success criteria
Experience collaborating with delivery teams to identify and fix accessibility barriers and raise accessibility capability
Ability to write accessibility guidance and documentation, and deliver accessibility training and presentations
Knowledge and experience using Digital Design Systems is highly preferred
