With a focus on adding value to all business areas by helping them make data-driven decisions and understand what is driving commercial performance – it’s our job to make sure the right tools, processes, governance and ways of working are in place to support this.
We are looking for an experienced Finance Manager, who will be a commercial and strategic business partner, looking at the big picture to drive insight and analysis that will support profitable decision making in both the long term strategy and the day to day trading.
About the role
What you will be doing:
Driving profitability:
P&L ownership, improving the visibility of profit in all reporting outputs and focussing decision making on profitable outcomes
Manage a robust rolling risks and opportunities process
Provide trading support, interpreting and analysing data to deliver insight into business performance
Understand key sales, margin and profitability drivers and pro-actively undertake analysis to support driving profitable sales and improve margin
Find opportunities to reduce and optimise markdown spend across long term planning and in season trading decisions
Drive the review of monthly performance with business partner leaders, providing analysis and advice to improve commercial decision making
Management and control of the operating cost budgets, identifying and delivering cost saving opportunities
Strategy, Insight & Analysis
Be able to stand back and identify trends and insight that will be key for driving future success
Provide financial support on key strategic programmes, driving challenge and insight
Ad hoc analysis, including scenario modelling on new initiatives and promotions
Stock and Cash
Improve gross profit return on stock investment and provide challenge on forward stock levels
Support the business to exit terminal stock in the most profitable way
Support the delivery of required stock & option reduction through analysis on product profitability
Planning & Forecasting:
Responsible for all planning and forecasting of sales to gross profit, including buy margin and markdown phasing for the business unit, working closely with the merchandising and buying teams to deliver a robust financial plan
Ownership for all forecast, Budget and 3YP outputs, supporting the insight to the leadership team into pivotal initiatives, key assumptions and risk and opportunities within the plan
Ensure key critical initiatives are fully embedded within the planning cycles
General
Drive a no surprise culture
Review opportunities to streamline reporting and drive efficiencies across all BUs
Meet agreed performance objectives identify and progress areas for personal development
About You
The skills and experience you will need include:
Strong commercial finance experience in the Retail sector
Ability to connect with impact to senior management, business partners and other finance teams
Good commercial understanding of the business and market
Budgeting and forecasting experience
Stock management experience
Quick learner, hardworking and solution focused
Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
Finance systems knowledge
Maintenance of meticulous financial controls
A qualified Accountant – CIMA/ACCA/ACA
