Job Purpose/Summary
The Hadoop DBA position works closely with all members of the IT department to ensure that our Distributed Enterprise Grade Data Solutions are highly available and well maintained. This position also assist the Development staff in planning and execution by recommending solutions to complex data issues while keeping the overall health of the system in mind.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Implement, manage, administer, upgrade and secure the Hadoop and data services infrastructure.
Manage the day to day operations of the Hadoop and data services technologies.
Configurations of data services required by analytics and application teams like Hive, HDFS, Spark, Kafka, YARN, NIFI.
Collaboration with multiple Business and IT Teams
Core Competencies and Skills
Superior knowledge in administering Hadoop in operating in a LINUX environment
Ability to accurately monitor environments, resolve issues and plan capacity improvements
Solid understanding of storage environments used by Big Data systems
Knowledge of cluster monitoring tools like Ambari, Ganglia, or Nagios
Education
Post-Secondary Education IT related degree
Relevant IT related training/certifications (MCSA, MCSD, etc.)
Experience
6-10 years with Hadoop technologies and all aspects of Big Data Enterprise Grade solutions
Proven experience with the full stack Hadoop components, e.g., Hive, Spark, Isilon, Active Directory
Experience working in secure environments (PCI, PCI, HIPPA, TS-SCI, etc.)
Experience with programming languages, e.g., Python, Java, scripting
Success criteria and performance measures
Ensures total system view when approaching problems
Collaborates with other infrastructure, analytics, and application teams to make sure services are highly available and performing as expected
Continues to improve skill sets
