POSITION SUMMARY

This position provides database administration and support for Microsoft SQL Server and / or Oracle database servers distributed across the globe which host critical applications such as SAP. The incumbent would be responsible for administering and maintaining existing databases and would provide DBA skills for projects requiring pre-engineered database solutions. This would include databases both in the Air Products data centers and in our AWS environment.

This position will be primarily focused on support of the databases and infrastructure services and components that support the enterprise.

This role will involve hands-on technical project work which will require close collaboration with the infrastructure operations teams in all regions and the Engineering team in America. This role will require a level of flexible working to cover UK and European working hours.

PRINCIPAL Accountabilities

Participation in scheduled Disaster Recovery exercises as needed (MS SQL Server based)
Work with application & database developers to resolve issues and develop and implement solutions
Assist and advise SQL Developers with code optimization as needed
Provide root cause analysis for outages when appropriate
Perform SQL code releases to our database environments when needed which could require working over weekends
Participate in Global IT projects to create/maintain database infrastructures as required by business needs.
Provide 7×24 level 2-3 global support for AP computing platforms, infrastructure hardware/software, services, processes, and offerings that are supported by Information Technology (IT) by participating in working an on-call Rota.
Be prepared to work European hours as required
Engage support providers (E.g.: MS, EMC, VMWare, etc.) as appropriate to resolve issues and ensure continuous availability to AP business processes, connectivity, communications and services
Collaborate with Infrastructure Engineering, in design, integration, testing and landing of new and enhanced information systems, services and offerings
Understand, adhere to and execute adopted ITIL practices for Change, Incident, Problem and Release Management
Provide technical subject matter expertise to project teams and support teams as needed
Author, review, and maintain documentation required for knowledge transfer and training to successfully land new solutions into the support organization
Develop and implement technical solutions that meet operational improvement needs.
The role will look to broaden the candidate’s skillset to support scheduling and cloud services where appropriate
The ideal candidate will have hands on experience with management and troubleshooting on the following systems.

Core Skills for Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle

Installation
Design, creation, and maintenance of databases and associated database objects
Monitoring performance and availability
Backup and restore
Security design
Periodic maintenance processes
Query troubleshooting and tuning
Connectivity troubleshooting
Working knowledge of T-SQL and PL/SQL

A good knowledge in several of the following areas will be an advantage

Sybase IQ
Experience in building and supporting cloud-based databases and services (AWS, Azure)
Knowledge of open-source database systems (PostgreSQL, MySQL, NoSQL)
Experience with Windows Server OS
Automic/UC4 operation and programming
PowerShell, Windows command line programming

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or Computer Science, specialized training, certification, or equivalent work experience.
Approximately 3+ years of experience within one or more areas within Information Technology (IT) or comparable organization, preferably at least 3 years spent working directly with databases
Strong analytical along with logical approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are essential across multiple services and technologies.
Candidate must possess strong verbal and written communications skills to effectively communicate technology changes to clients inside and outside of IT
General understanding of Project Management methodology
General understanding of Information Technology (IT) infrastructure and processes (ITIL)
Ability to assess and prioritize competing issues and opportunities
Ability to anticipate potential problems and develop solutions needed to resolve them
Ability to effectively work independently and collaboratively across global, cross organizational team environments and participate in virtual projects, work requests or activities
Able to prioritize and meet milestones when working on multiple projects simultaneously
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
Strong ability to work with strategic vendors, outside service/support providers and other third-party suppliers
