THE ROLE
MQ Health is seeking an experienced and dynamic Nurse Manager, Perioperative Services to join Macquarie University Hospital on a permanent basis.
Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the Nurse Manager, Perioperative Services is responsible for the effective and strategic management of the human, fiscal and capital resources of the Operating Suite, MMI Nursing, Day Surgery Unit, Anaesthetic/Recovery, Angiography, Endoscopy and the Sterilising Services Department (SSD).
About You:
In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning, facilitating and evaluating perioperative services for the care of patients across the hospital. This position will provide leadership, mentorship and support in the achievement of excellence in nursing practice. The Nurse Manager will promote a culture that embraces best practise and identifies, evaluates and incorporates appropriate emerging trends in perioperative practice and will be involved in the provision of the strategic and operational direction of perioperative services in congruence with the strategic directions of MQ Health. The Nurse Manager will work collaboratively with the Program Leads and Discipline Heads of Anaesthesia and Surgery to achieve a coordinated service.

Key Accountabilities of the role include:
> Strategic and Operational Planning
Develop, implement and evaluate the Health Service and Operational plan of the Peri-operative Services in collaboration and consultation with relevant stakeholders

Act as a role model within and external to the organisation by providing professional leadership and upholding the values of MQ Health and the Nursing profession.

> Information Technology
Promote a culture of change within the perioperative service to advance the use of information technology in nursing practice.
> Clinical Practice
Manage the clinical processes within the service to achieve and maintain optimal levels of efficiency in clinical practice & ensure a culture of patient advocacy in the provision of care.
> Operational Resources
Liaise effectively with relevant members of the Finance/Business and Human Resource departments in matters relating to unit budget, activity levels and service planning, patient care and staff support.
> Quality Management
Promote quality activities and coordinate quality improvement projects within the department & Manage critical incidents which occur across the Perioperative Service
> Human Resource Management
Oversee the team to manage, assess and develop staff e.g. development, implementation and review of Induction and education programs, Performance Reviews to meet individual needs and achieve organisational goals,
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the industrial award as it applies to staff entitlements, working conditions and rosters & Address performance management issues in collaboration with HR.

Evidence of professional development commensurate with the level of autonomy and authority expected of the position
Demonstrate and lead others in the delivery of good nursing care and customer service
Demonstrate and lead others in recording and communicating essential information to nursing colleagues, doctors and other health professionals
Demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement and takes an active role in the ISO Certification process to meet ISO standards incorporating Core Standards for Safety and Quality and willingness to initiate and contribute to quality activities
Manage and contribute to occupational health and safety activities to ensure a safe work environment for clients, community, staff and visitors
Complies with obligations under Section 30 of the Workplace Health and Safety Act (1995).
Adept at fostering positive working relationships
Ability to achieve outcomes through effective leadership and delegation
Demonstrated ability to deal with a range of issues concurrently
Ability to identify and analyse options and make informed decisions
Highly developed clinical leadership skills
Highly developed negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
