Your Role and Responsibilities
This role wil help Setup and maintain Openshift (OCP) Clusters for zFirmware on Z and x86 platform
Cluster locations are in Germany and for 2023 US is planned. Currently OCP/Z is used, running on z/VM (KVM is possible) and for 2022 also x86 based is in scope based on Openstack
Provide fully automated setup to deploy and run cluster (Infrastructure as Code – Terraform/Ansible)
Support users (Z firmware developers)
The Intel cluster needs to be build out in early 2022 in Germany.
Establish the OpenShift clusters and devise an architecture to deploy and automate the running of clusters on a Z System and subsequently on an x86 platform. The architecture should be extensible. You will be architecting and implementing the cluster env from the foundational level. You will devise the deployment strategy and enable the entire Z Firmware development community once this is built. Modernizing the environment would help in saving significant resources in terms of time and effort with this deployment.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
8-10 years of experience in OpenShift.
Good in Container technology. Docker and Openshift (or Kubernetes)
Linux administration, preferably RHEL
Programming skill
Automation. Preferably Ansible and Terraform (Infrastructure as code)
Good understanding of Microservices
Basic understanding of DevOps
Experience in supporting stakeholders and understanding their use cases
Experience in monitoring a service (e.g. via setting up Grafana dashboards and using Prometheus – OCP Default)
Experience in debugging a service, especially performance issues
Basic understanding of the hypervisor and storage configuration options of a Z machine, z KVM or z/VM skill
Fluent in English language
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Understanding and experience with System Z Architecture
Knowledge of zOS environment and debugging programs on zOS
Knowledge of z/OS, z/VM, z/VSE, Linux on Z
Experience with Open-source development tools and projects.
