Job Description : Operational Risk Manager- Fintech (reporting directly to the COO)

Our client is a payments-as-a-service solution for banks, non-bank acquirers, and other merchant service providers. They are building a payment platform that allows merchants to accept payments in-store, in-app and online, and consolidate all their data on a real-time business management dashboard. In addition, they are integrating value-added services, such as remote terminal monitoring, marketing and loyalty, cash flow lending, and actionable analytics.
They were recently accepted into Mastercard’s Start Path program, an accelerator program enabling late-stage start-ups to scale, and having established a successful partnership with Westpac in Australia, they are now expanding to partner with other large domestic and international acquirers.

About the role
In line with the growth, they are looking for an Operational Risk Manager to come on board and provide guidance, advice and support for various risk initiatives – with particular focus on IT and Information Security risk. As a highly visible business facing role, you will have well-developed stakeholder engagement skills and be a critical leader in maintaining governance standards and embedding risk management processes.

As the Operational Risk Manager, you will:
Develop risk management strategies, identify & assess potential risks and exposures (in particular in Information Technology & Security), and determine how to effectively minimize those risks and develop procedures that can be implemented,
Work closely with business and/or project owners to influence a strong risk culture e.g. conducting risk workshops, providing guidance on risk assessments and strategies, overseeing risk remediation activities against appropriate timelines,
Draft management & Board reports for formal governance forums, making sure risks are articulated clearly and the right information gets to the right people for the right decisions to be made,
Work closely with project and operational teams to ensure projects with technology solutions are appropriately designed to minimize delivered risk, and
Lead strategic initiatives to further improve our risk service offering and mature risk and compliance management for the business.
Develop & continuously improve key IT control processes (e.g. corporate IT & user access management), business control processes (e.g. business continuity, disaster management, incident management) and provide 2nd Line of Defence monitoring.
Your skills and experience
At least 5 years of experience within an Operational Risk or Compliance role
Significant knowledge and experience in risk and regulatory landscape, operational IT, business knowledge and operational risk and compliance frameworks
Demonstrated experience conducting IT audits and cybersecurity risk assessments across IT environments, projects, third parties, business continuity and disaster recovery.
Strong understanding and application of IT risk and cybersecurity frameworks such as ISO 27001/2, SSAE16, NIST, PCI-DSS, COBIT.
Strong understanding of modern IT and software development concepts, including cloud, microservices and continuous deployment.
Adaptive influencing and relationship building skills across senior executives and peers
Excellent problem solving and evaluative judgement skills
Strong skills in planning, project management and attention to detail
Ability to work under pressure with shifting priorities in a dynamic work environment
Tertiary qualifications in commerce, finance or business
Experience with ideally both 1st and 2nd Line of Defence
Although not required, previous experience in the payments or a fast-growth technology company would be well regarded
