About this role
As a Product Design Manager, you will manage a team of product designers and coordinate the design and development of new products, propositions and services across the Global Growth Portfolio. You will be accountable alongside your peers in Product & Engineering for its ongoing success and continual improvement.
You will evaluate and ensure design feasibility and design optimization, driving community engagement with the Design System. Additionally, you will provide inputs to strategic decisions that affect your functional area of responsibility.
You’ll have the following responsibilities
Leading a team of designers. You’ll directly manage a small team of designers, setting their objectives, looking after their wellbeing, and helping them achieve their own personal career ambitions.
Creating a high performing culture. create a high-performing culture across teams, fostering cross-functional and cross-departmental collaboration and ensuring consistency by working closely with Design Managers, other Design disciplines, Product Owners, Engineers and stakeholders to shape the vision and help define the roadmap for the ongoing optimisation our product experiences.
Building meaningful relationships. You’ll know that the secret to success is winning the hearts and minds of those around you, so you’ll need to pro-actively cultivate relationships across the business to help you get things done and promote a user-centred way of working.
Championing customer needs. You’ll help ensure that our designers and squads are designing solutions that solve real customer needs and translate user needs and business goals into compelling usable and consistent journeys, digital products and services for end-customers
Improving our design team processes. You’ll play a crucial role in ensuring that we have a consistent and coherent process to manage design quality and collaboration across squads.
Respectfully interrogating squad missions. When you need to, you’ll respectfully interrogate our squad missions ensuring that we are tackling real customer needs and that we are constantly learning from incremental product releases.
Working collaboratively. You’ll know that building a shared understanding of the customer problems we’re trying to solve is crucial. So, ensuring that our squads are collaborating and sharing ideas and insights is paramount.
Developing new competencies. You will partner – and ensure our team partner – with our Research, Data and AI teams to find opportunities and integrate user insights into product strategy and design, encouraging a culture of customer-centric and data-driven design.
You’ll have the following skills & experience
A spectrum of expertise across the following skills (with a specialism in some areas):
Exceptional UX and UI skills,
Design Software (Sketch, Figma, Photoshop)
Discovers issues and needs through user research & testing
Able to use Interaction Design & Prototyping to define the order and experience of user’s activities
Ensures each moment is intentionally created using Micro Interaction Design
Designs end-to-end journeys with user needs and data at their heart
You can analyse behaviours and appetites using data analysis, MVT & A/B Testing
Knowledge of modern, emerging web and mobile UX/UI design patterns and experiences
Flourishes in an environment of continuous learning and eager to advance your craft further
Good understanding of the technical basics around web and app applications
Ability to communicate and collaborate in cross-functional teams
Expected Experience & behaviours
Requires:
Proven years of experience managing product designers
Experience as a product designer (or roles with similar skills) with a good amount of that time working on ecommerce experiences.
Strong design skills (including stellar online portfolio that showcases your work, or work from teams you’ve managed), including familiarity with ecommerce design
Ability to take a project from ideation to completion and continually improve a customer experience
Experience working in lean agile squads
Experience with HTML/CSS preferred
