Job Description : Office of the Chief Economist at Microsoft is a group of economists, data scientists, and software engineers that offers assistance with applied economics. We collaborate virtually with every organization within Microsoft, offering a range of capabilities including pricing optimization, demand/capacity forecasting, marketplace design, and an economics perspective on strategy and policy. Our Software Engineering Team in India will aid in the development of novel product pilots, improvements, and research incubations that are aligned to these core capabilities.
Responsibilities
We are seeking a solid software engineer with an interest in economics and machine learning to work on technology transfer attempts and data platform development. Candidate should have demonstrable experience designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing software products and services at scale. Candidate should have a strong enthusiasm to solve problems across the full stack and work effectively in an agile software development set up. Candidate, along with their technical expertise will also have contribute to defining project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
Candidate would gain and share technical knowledge as necessary with immediate team members. Foster ties with external network of peers and learn best practices for the team. Maintain communication with all stakeholders during the course of development. Independently design, develop, and test solutions that address product or service wide problems. Lead by example within the team to produce simple, extensible, and maintainable software assets with few defects. Drive collaboration efforts across different feature areas and identify ways to accomplish more by enabling others.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (or) Equivalent Practical Experience
5+ years of experience with Software Development in one or more systems programming languages (C#, JAVA, C++, or equivalent) and with data structures and algorithms
3+ Years of experience working and collaborating with technical customers in developing and/or launching software products with a demonstrable experience with software design and architecture.
Preferred:
8+ years of experience with software development including at least 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
Experience applying distributed machine learning including deployment of machine learning models (or statistical models) in real-world products or services
Strong relational database and SQL skills with working knowledge of data warehousing concepts, including technical architectures, infrastructure components, ETL/ ELT and reporting/analytic tools and environments (such as Cosmos DB, Apache Beam, Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive, MapReduce, Flume).
