THE ROLE
Create and maintain technical product documentation that provides users with reference material to enable them to successfully work with the Avoka Transact platform.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Liaise with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gather technical content about the Transact platform
Attend product meetings (sprint planning, grooming sessions, sprint demonstrations, product brainstorming, training sessions, etc.) when relevant to gather content for use in documentation

Take complex product knowledge and reduce the complexity so that it can be more easily understood through documentation

Document complex processes that show the Software Development Lifecycle process specific to the Transact platform, including Integration Development

Environments, Source Code Management systems, branding and merging processes, application packaging, principles of Unit and Service testing, mocking and mock servers, test driven development, and Continuous Integration (especially Jenkins)

Review and understand existing code so that you can explain the code and how to recreate it to users of the Transact platform

Create the documentation in MadCap Flare

Regularly review documentation (internal and published) with SMEs to ensure it is correct

Publish finalised documentation to the Knowledge base

Prepare and publish technical videos that aid understanding and complement existing documentation

Suggest methods for improvement across published product documentation

Work with the Web Designer/Graphic Designer to enhance product documentation (page styles, page layout, images, diagrams)

Create advanced sample applications (forms) to use within the documentation

Assist Instructional Designers (eLearning and ILT) to create examples for use during training courses

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Ideally have a degree in IT, software or equivalent industry experience

At least 3-5 years of practical experience coding, in any structured language (Java, JavaScript and/or Groovy preferred but not required)

Comfortable interviewing SMEs, asking intelligent and probing questions, and knowledge to understand their responses

Experience in technical writing (technical specifications, product documentation, training manuals, etc.)

Experience creating video tutorials would be an advantage
Have a background and understanding of modern Software Development Lifecycle processes, including Integration Development Environments, Source Code
Management systems, branching and merging processes, application packaging, principles of Unit and Service testing, mocking and mock servers, test driven development, Continuous Integration (especially Jenkins), Service Oriented Architecture, Application Domain Models, JSON and XML, modern web application development frameworks, version management and configuration management strategies, and application management in production

You do not need to be able to write code, but you need to be able to understand and explain code written by others. You need to be able to understand code written in minimum in Java and JavaScript, and ideally Groovy, and modern coding styles such as classes, inheritance, fluent and closures.

You will need to be comfortable understanding and explaining software development paradigms and patterns, including but not limited to: model view controller, façade pattern, model-oriented design, backend-for-frontend pattern, server controller pattern, asynchronous invocation including call-backs and promises.

You will need to be comfortable understanding and explaining system integration paradigms and patterns, including SSL, Single Sign On, url-parameter passing, cookies, single-use tokens, principles of encryption, public/private keys, enterprise service bus, micro-services, and more.
Be able to build practical examples using simple code, and be able to use these examples to explain principles in the platform.
