Job Description Summary
The Senior Project Manager (PM) is responsible for the successful delivery of technical projects and programs for the Micro Focus Product Services Delivery Center (PSDC) organization. The primary focus of this position is on management of datacenter-based SaaS and lab environment migration to a public cloud provider, although other non-cloud projects are also managed by the PM, often simultaneously. The spectrum of projects includes small, short-duration efforts as well as large-scale, longer-term complex programs involving multiple Micro Focus product groups and, in some cases, external customers and partners. The PM works directly with all individuals, teams, product groups and PMs within the scope of each project, and provides planning, execution, communication, reporting, escalation and overall leadership throughout the project lifecycle. The Senior Project Manager works directly with other PMs on larger migration programs. The PM is a member of a team of project and program managers.
Job Description
The Senior Project Manager drives infrastructure-related projects – the majority of which are migrations to the public cloud – to successful completion for the benefit of Micro Focus and our customers. These projects are technical in nature and may involve direct collaboration with cloud, compute, storage, network, monitoring, database, operating system and/or other engineers and their respective teams. The PM is responsible for understanding all aspects of a given project at a level which enables the PM to provide effective leadership, management, escalation, communication and reporting. Effective leadership is achieved when the PM schedules, leads and facilitates stand-up, status and all other project meetings. Effective communication and reporting, including recording and distribution of meeting minutes, action items, risks, issues, status and other project metrics is an essential component of this position.
Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities of the PM include:
Coordination with product groups, IT service providers and PSDC-internal teams which are involved with the project
Enhanced requirements gathering
Financial data gathering
Resource data gathering and planning
Establishment of communication content and cadence for reporting to project team, management, project sponsors and stakeholders
Project approval signoff
Project kickoff
Project management through lifecycle
Communication and reporting – status, accomplishments, next steps, issues, risks, roadmap
Issue and risk management and escalation
Project closure
The PM will also participate in project management team activities such as staff meetings, individual checkpoints with direct manager
Leadership of sprint planning, daily stand-up meetings, project coordination meetings and project update meetings
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Management, Engineering, Computer Sciences, or equivalent
PMP/PMI certification preferred
Six to ten years of technical project management
Knowledge and Skills:
Thorough knowledge of and experience with project management methodologies including:
Agile
Scrum
Kanban
Waterfall
Extensive experience with using project and program planning and reporting tools and software packages to create, manage, and track project results:
Microsoft Project
Microsoft SharePoint
Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel
Tableau and BI are a plus
Micro Focus PPM and Octane are a plus
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Demonstrated business acumen and successful experience managing all aspects of programs
Excellent communication skills:
Mastery in English and local language
Ability to lead and participate in complex conversations, and capture and document minutes and action items
Ability to effectively communicate program plans, proposals, and results, and negotiate options at senior management levels.
Ability to document and communicate (email, PowerPoint) status, updates, issues, risks
Strong leadership skills:
Leading meetings
Facilitating discussions
Assigning/delegating tasks
Resolving conflicts
Focusing team on driving toward and achieving goals and milestones
