Main Purpose:

The main objective of the role is to drive Agro R&D & techno-commercial agenda in East, North – East, Bihar & Jharkhand. Person will be developing best practices to bring significant improvement in yield and quality of produce, identifying and recommending the most suitable varieties for Eastern & NE geography of India, transferring proven and innovative practices and technologies to farmers by training farming community and our own agro team. Person will be setting up storage protocols and monitoring Chip grade & Seed storages, to reduce post-harvest losses and maintain quality of stored potatoes. Keeping liaison with CPRI, Government Institutes and State Agriculture universities will be sole responsibility of the role. Other than potato, person will also be responsible for technical support on introduction of Corn varieties, its storage in modern storage structure Silo’s for Doritos production.

India has been identified as SUPUER SITE location and part of Global R&D program for potato. Responsibilities of SUPERSITE go to this role, which is very critical for variety introduction, evaluation, selection for East & NE geographies. Under this program he will be evaluating potato varieties suitable for Eastern part of India & Bangladesh. Person will be establishing strong relationship and interacting at AMESA region and PepsiCo global R&D team.

Key Accountabilities:
Manage all 2 supersite trials locations, Bengal & Assam per global protocol and multilocation ACE & Techno-commercial trials in 4 states of East & NE geographies.
Develop plan and evaluate new FL varieties of potato and recommend the best ones for the Bengal, Assam, Bihar & Jharkhand geographies for CF programme.
Establish and manage 2 captive farm and research program on evaluation of variety, agronomy and potato seed to be conducted at Captive farm and other states mentioned above.
Lead SUPER SITE variety evaluation program for AMESA region and come out with recommendation for Eastern India & Bangladesh.
Keep close contact with Zahura team to take new varieties forward for seed multiplication & varietal evaluation trial at supersite locations.
Lead the agenda of seed quality by extending support to seed team to establish seed production technology in easter part of India to carter & supply locally produce quality seed to Bengal, Assam, Bihar & Jharkhand.
Lead the agenda of capability development on storage of Chip grade & Seed potato in Modern cold stores & organize chip grade storage review calls at PAN India.
Design, develop & share, protocols, training material & chemical kit with regional teammates in NE geographies.
Support sustainable farming programme in NE geographies in association with global sustainability team.
Extend technical support on introduction of Corn varieties, its storage in modern storage structure Silo’s for Doritos production
People Accountabilities:
Maintain strong relationship with CPRI, Agriculture Institutes and Universities
Work closely with authority in PPV and FRA and ensure completion of variety registration process
Scaling up technical knowledge of agro teams by sharing new findings from research trials conducted in various geographies.
Work with regional teams to organize POP training programs to share POP improvement and new variety performance with farmers.
Developing technical literature, training modules and POP booklets while working with R&D Head
Interact with PepsiCo Global Research team to bring in newer technologies to India program
Job Dimensions:

The scope of the role is to be responsible/ lead agro R&D program in key potato growing NE geographies of India (Bengal, Assam, Bihar & Jharkhand) & Bangladesh. To manage two supersites in Bengal & Assam. Person will be providing technical support to the procurement teams and farmers who will be supplying < 2,00,000 MT of potato per year. Person will be a technical support to the Agro team of < 30 people to extend his support on resolving day to day problems and pass on new technologies. To bring new technologies and innovation, person will be maintaining strong relationship and with technical institutes like CPRI, Agriculture Institutes and other organizations in India. Interacting with Pepsico Global R&D team and bringing new technologies will be prime responsibilities of the role. #LI-INDIA Qualifications/Requirements The job is highly scientific & technical, which require following education, experience and skills: 1. Ph.D/MSc in Agriculture Sciences preferably with Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Horticulture/Botany. 2. At least 5 years experience of agriculture research in the area of variety development, variety valuation and preparing reports and recommendations Basic knowledge about the potato crop, preferably 2-3 years of experience working on variety evaluation and agronomy aspects Very good interpersonal skills of dealing with govt. agencies, institutes and farming community Good presentation skills and a good team player Multilingual (at least Hindi, English and other regional language) Relocation Eligible: Eligible for Standard Relocation Job Type: Regular This post is listed Under  agriculture
