Job summary
Amazon has come a long way since opening on the World Wide Web in July 1995. Today, we operate retail websites in multiple countries across geographies, offering products in many categories (books, media, digital, electronics etc.) worldwide, and we still like to work hard, have fun and make history! The Amazon brand has become synonymous with a superior level of convenience, selection, low prices, and customer service. We are looking for people that are self-driven, able to deal with ambiguity, passionate about innovating, working on challenging highly scalable distributed systems problems, and motivated to learn about a broad set of technologies. Being a team player is a must. You want to make those around you better, participate in designing new software, complete code reviews, and ship code.
Who are we? The Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) group builds and operates software, hardware, and processes that run the global network of Fulfillment Centers that move many millions of units of inventory, employ tens of thousands of people, and ensure that customers get what they want when we promised we would get it to them. We do this by building automated solutions to handle things that technology does well, while relying on people to handle things that humans do well. AFT Outbound Packing is a subgroup within AFT that builds and maintains core software and services in Amazon Fulfillment Centers. This is the software used worldwide to manage the packing operation of items to be shipped to customers. If you’ve ever bought something from Amazon, there’s a very good chance our software was directly involved in getting it to you.
Automation is happening, and with it comes complexity. We need a seasoned Product Manager to help us expand a core team at the very heart of Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT): Edge Device App Management System (EDAMS) team and play a pivotal role defining product requirements, setting the go-to-market strategy and innovate on behalf of our customers and internal teams. We are committed to building a powerful IoT solution using AWS technologies such as Greengrass, Lambdas etc. to seamlessly interact with tens of thousands of devices that are present in Amazon warehouses. As the Internet of Things continues to grow and millions of devices get connected, compute is moving from the cloud to the edge as we harness the data generated thru IoT edge devices and enable them to act intelligently in a secure, high throughput, low latency environment with intermittent or no network connectivity. Given the breadth of the service we are building, this role will require coordination across many internal and external teams and will be visible at the highest levels of the company. You will work with our customers, partners, software vendors, and operational stakeholders to prioritize roadmap features, and write business requirements documents.
We are highly motivated, collaborative and fun-loving with an entrepreneurial spirit and bias for action. With a broad mandate to experiment and innovate, we are growing at an unprecedented rate with a seemingly endless range of new opportunities. As a member of this team, you will get the opportunity to own and manage highly visible, innovative projects that directly impact the customer experience. This position has great opportunity for growth as Amazon increasingly automates its Fulfillment Center operations.
Specific responsibilities include the following, but not limited to: ·
Creating a product strategy that appeals to the unique needs and requirements of customers/partners/internal teams.
Managing the entire product life cycle from strategic planning to tactical execution.
Launching the vision, product strategy and roadmap for our products and working with key stakeholders in the company to deliver on that vision, e.g. Operations, Partner teams, international site leaders, etc.
Defining product requirements documents based on an intimate knowledge of the specific market segments, target customers, and product.
Defining go-to-market plan and driving enablement, working to ensure that Operations, SMEs, Tech teams, and other internal partner teams have what they need to be successful.
Establishing goals and reviewing metrics to identify opportunities and deliver success.
MBA or Master’s degree.
Experience with running a major program with leadership visibility a big plus.
Experience working across several engineering teams and business development to deliver products to market.
Experience managing products including both hardware and software components through multiple product lifecycles.
Demonstrated ability to understand and discuss technical concepts, manage tradeoffs and evaluate opportunistic new ideas with internal and external partners.
