We are building a destination that has world class customer experience, differentiated technology & operational performance, and exceptional reach into the closets of the region.About the roleThe Head of Platforms & Infrastructure is responsible for activities, technologies and resources around the build and operations of the infrastructure, security, communications, environments, and platform software configuration for the whole company. The role will involve a huge element of data compliance, solving infrastructure optimization problems for the business, reporting directly to the CTO.Duties & ResponsibilitiesDirectly (and hands-on) leading the building and running of a best-in-class automated infrastructure platform for the development, running and continuity of the company’s future. This includes online/mobile customer-facing operations, using DevOps principles, global deployment, more than one of cloud-provided IaaS, private virtualized resources, and dedicated equipment.Managing the existing team that builds and administers the in-house servers (e.g., Exchange, a little MS-based legacy, office SANs and NASs), desktop (OSX, Windows, iPads) and office and store LANs, WANs, and WLANs in partnership with 3rd party vendors for IT admin.Building, operating, and managing server deployments across multiple clouds and hosting providers, and across deployments around the global, including selecting, contracting, and managing the supplier / hosting providers involved in each and integrating their services and operations.Having hands-on experience in modernizing applications from monolith to micro services. Deep diving on design patterns (e.g.: Singleton, event-driven) and evolutionary patterns (e.g.: Saga, circuit break) and decomposing the large databases expertly.Producing and validating reference architectures and customer adoption for AWS Containers and Serverless services including: AWS Lambda, AWS Fargate, Amazon DynamoDB, Elastic Container Service for Kubernetes (EKS), Elastic Container Service (ECS), Elastic Container Registry (ECR), Amazon Proton, AWS X-Ray, AWS App Mesh, and etc.Ensuring scalability, performance, and resilience of the platform, including adequate backups, disaster recovery etc, and ensuring the processes to respond to and resolve to incidents are defined and resourced 24×7 given the nature of a global eCommerce platform.Managing infrastructure and platform projects to build new capabilities, or remediate existing ones, and identifying and managing response.Establishing and line managing a best-in-class team of systems administrators, DevOps professionals, and infrastructure analysts and managers.Providing advice and instructions on how to conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).Monitoring data management procedures and compliance within the company.Participating in meetings with managers to ensure privacy by design at all levels.Writing and updating detailed guides on data protection policies.Leading collaboration with the development teams, project management, IT service and support teams and other to support their activities, respond to their needs and respond to incidents.Making budgetary reports and recommendations to the CTO as appropriate to existing and planned infrastructure and platform initiatives.Handling any other tasks related to platform infrastructure as required.RequirementsExpertise in multiple platforms, including Linux and at least two of LAMP, Ruby, and Java platforms on Linux, and of other related Open Source platform technologies E.g. High Availability DBs, caching such as Memcached/Redis, Security, Failover, Replication, Load Balancing, API management etc.Experience in data protection and legal compliance in various geographies.Work experience in data protection and legal compliance is a plus.Solid knowledge in GDPR and national data protection law.Expertise in DevOps principles and practice such as Continuous Integration, deployment automation, deployment via version control, continuous Deployment.Expertise in and opinions on cloud environments such as Amazon EC2, Serverless architecture, Rackspace, and Joyent Cloud as well as more traditional VMWare approaches.Good knowledge of various server platforms, and how to scale and configure each for reliability and automation.Expert knowledge of AWS architecture (Lambda, RDS, EC2, SQS, S3, ECS, EKS etc) and good to have working knowledge on CloudFormation templates.People Development: The company’s growth gives great opportunity for personal and career development for all, and so it’s important that the Head of Platforms to be capable of developing her/his own team so they can step up as the business grows.Self-motivated, capable of working with limited supervision, pro-actively reporting on status and tasks.Technical degree in computer science, math or engineering.
