The Virginia State Police is seeking qualified applicants for an Accountant position located in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The Department of State Police provides a statewide police department to preserve law and order and enforce criminal, traffic, and regulatory laws. The Property and Finance Division supports the Department’s employees by providing accounting and budgeting services. This is an Exempt position; therefore, this position is excluded from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act due to the duties and responsibilities of this position.
DUTIES:

Prepares billing and maintains the file for Departmental Vehicle Crashes.Accounts receivable handling of vehicle crashes and other account categories.Analyzes vehicle crash Accounts Receivable and reconciles financial data within accounting systems.Monthly reconciliation of the deposits.Processes all Risk Management claims.Testifies as expert witness for the Attorney General’s Office concerning court hearing procedures for cases related to VSP’s Accounts Receivable casesUpdates desk procedures.Provides customer service and division support.May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), accounting policies and procedures; maintenance of Accounts Receivable records and its associated impact on financial statement preparation and reporting; delinquent accounts collections, and the fundamentals of preparing financial statements and reports.Skill in operating computers and using Microsoft Office applications, and experience using database applications.Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data, and perform complex account reconciliations; to prepare and enter accounting journal entries, and maintain Accounts Receivable ledgers; to prepare accounting summaries, statements and reports; to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously; to work independently and as a member of a team; to communicate orally and writing effectively in English, with co-workers, management, and vendors; and to comprehend and apply GAAP, government entities compliance regulations, and agency policies and procedures.Graduation from high school or equivalent.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred.Accounts receivable experience required.Experience with collection of past due receivables preferred.Experience with fiscal and accounting mainframe systems preferred.Experience using Oracle E-Business Suites GL module highly perferred.An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possesion of the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.
