Job Description : Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our Finance team as an Accountant!

About the job

In this role you will apply accounting principles and practices to a variety of accounting responsibilities and participate in the company’s accounting close and reporting cycle. You will perform complex technical accounting research and documentation, assist with analyzing results for both internal and external parties, and contribute to projects within the finance department.

What you’ll do

Prepares complex journal entries, reconciliation of accounts, and reporting files.
Aid in the preparation of financial reports, and performs more complex analysis.
Prepare general files, financial analytics, prepares information for management reports, and other deliverables.
Establish understanding of complex journal entries, schedules, and other financial reports. Demonstrate a clear understanding of mechanics in assigned areas/tasks and the reasoning behind assigned tasks.
Ability to educate and train new hires
Practiced and knowledgeable in the use of applicable information technology and systems to meet work needs.
Experienced in general knowledge of GAAP, STAT, and reporting guidelines.
Capable of applying knowledge of program specifics.
Identifies and implement areas for improvement.
Execute project(s) with project manager.
Document and update procedures.
Ability to work independently on process improvements.
Auditor involvement; prepares schedules, responds to inquiries and solves a range of complex issues/problems.

Salary Range: $59,300-$98-800 plus eligibility for annual bonus program
Who you are

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related experience
2+years related experience
Experience with general ledger software such as Lawson, Hyperion, or other similar system
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
Experienced Excel skills
Organizational skills with attention to detail
Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and able to interact effectively with co-workers
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
Team player and self-starter who can work in a professional, fast paced environment
Strong reconciliation, problem solving, reporting and analytical thinking skills
Provide great customer service to internal customers within the organization
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
