Job Description : Position Summary/Position
Under the direction of the Financial Accounting Manager, the Accountant participates in general accounting functions including developing account reconciliations, journal entries, data compilation and analyses ensuring accuracy and timely delivery. Responsible for assigned areas such as Fixed Assets, AP and administrative accruals including property management and payroll. Major Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)
1. Responsible for completing assigned month-end close duties in an accurate and timely manner.
2. Prepare monthly journal entries, work-papers and management reports.
3. Ensure accounting controls by managing assigned balance sheet accounts; performing account reconciliations with supporting workpapers, and performing appropriate research to ensure compliance with GAAP standards.
4. Prepare, analyze and report the monthly Incurred But Not Reported (IBNR) and revenue journal entries
5. Responsible for completing the monthly financial statement packet in a timely manner.
6. Responsible for the analysis and reconciliation of assigned accounts each month and supporting workpapers.
7. Create and maintain work-papers as requested by outside financial auditors.
8. Analyze and report on trend and budget vs. actual variances.
9. Assist with special projects or any other duties as required to ensure IEHP operations are successful.
10. Cross train in various areas of responsibilities within the team.
11. Work effectively within and outside the department to communicate and resolve issues and streamline existing processes.
12. Assist in reading and interpreting DHCS and CMS contractual language to apply to areas of responsibilities (i.e. revenue rate changes).
13. Perform calculations and reconciliations of sales tax for the Board of Equalization.
14. Reconcile intergovernmental transfers (IGT) on regular intervals and distribute related funds to county hospitals. Supervisory Responsibilities Leading: Self Experience Qualifications
Three (3) or more years of accounting experience that would have developed the knowledge and abilities listed, including experience assisting with financial audits. Experience working with a large ERP. Preferred Experience
Principles and practices of the health care industry and/or health care, public agency, or not-for-profit accounting experience preferred. Education Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required in Accounting/ Finance or a related field. Preferred Education Professional Certification Professional Licenses
CPA preferred. Drivers License Required Yes, must have a valid California Driver’s License. Knowledge Requirement
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and procedures required. Understand and interpret policies, procedures, and regulations. Principles and methods of planning, managing and maintaining an automated accounting system. Skills Requirement
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills required. Prepare clear, comprehensive written reports and materials. Strong Analytical skills. Ability to calculate and prepare appropriate journal entries to record business transactions. Abilities Requirement

While performing duties of the job, employee may be required to move about the organization. Employee must be able to sit for extended period of time, as well as work at the computer for long periods. Employee is required to use hands and fingers, especially for typing on the computer and using the mouse. Must also be able to reach with hands and arms to retrieve paperwork or files from cabinets and must occasionally lift heavy office supply boxes. Employee must be able to talk and hear, particularly for regular communications on the phone. Starting Salary: $70,002.40-$89,261.33
Pay rate will commensurate with experience
