Assistant Controller for a fast growing client in South Austin. The ideal candidate will be a technical accountant with Big 4 experience and a background in audit. This role will be a technical resource for GAAP research and compliance, provide key analyses of business operations, and support the development of the accounting team.
Essential Functions:
Lead month-end close process, including journal entry review, account reconciliation review, variance analyses and financial reporting.
Identify and implement opportunities to accelerate the close process and improve the accuracy and efficiency of financial reporting.
Train the staff accountants to review GL coding and cost center assignment.
Assist with financial reporting
Oversee cost center review and reporting. Review expenses at a cost center level for accuracy and identification of key trends. Partner with cost center management for decision support and expense management.
Oversee corporate cards and Travel & Expense reimbursement programs.
Collaborate closely with AP, AR, Payroll & Cash Application teams to ensure accurate accounting.
Develop expertise in transaction flows through accounting systems and participate actively in NetSuite projects.
Participate in the development of the annual budget as needed.
Draft professional presentation materials to discuss financial trends and variances with leadership.
Assist in ensuring financials are in compliance with GAAP and complete related technical research as needed.
Assist with the completion of external audits.
Create ad-hoc reports and analyses to support operating decisions. Assist the Controller and CFO with process improvement initiatives and various special projects.
Education and/or Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field. Master’s Degree, either MBA or MAcc, a strong plus.
5+ years of experience in financial accounting and reporting with a respected company, or external audit experience.
Staff supervision experience preferred.
CPA required.
Big 4 Audit experience preferred.
Experience with Netsuite or other major ERP preferred. Adaptive Insights or other major financial reporting systems valuable.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Prior experience in a fast-paced growth environment a plus. Supervisory Responsibility:
