Job Description : LYON COUNTY, MINNESOTA POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: Auditor/Treasurer Department: Auditor/TreasurerExempt Reports to: County AdministratorPURPOSE OF POSITION: The purpose of this position is to supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of the Auditor/Treasurer department for Lyon County. Duties include, but are not limited to: supervising staff; directing activities; providing training; preparing and maintaining budgets; collecting taxes; and performing additional tasks as assigned by the Board of Commissioners.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.Supervises and evaluates assigned staff; manages employee concerns; directs work assignments, and counsels/disciplines employees, when necessary; provides departmental employee training and development.Directs work in receiving levies; calculates and collects taxes; records payments; distributes taxes to local taxing districts.Prepares and maintains Auditor/Treasurer and election budgets. Maintains financial books; makes decisions on investing county funds; serves as the Chief Election Official for the county.Serves on various Boards in county management activities including the Board of Equalization, CanvassingBoard and Extension Committee.Provides taxpayers with information via newspaper and radio; serves as liaison with public to achieve a positive image; explains how taxes are calculated to public; explains how elections are computed.Files unclaimed property reports; remits associated funds; collects “non-sufficient funds” checks; coordinates activities with other departments, city and county attorneys, and police departments.Reviews and receives various reports, documents, and forms, including tax statements, state reports, cash balance reports, invoices, claims, ballots, licenses, budget reports, assessor’s abstract, levy certifications, audit forms, and absentee applications.ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Substitutes for departmental employees, as needed; performs administrative tasks, including: answering phones, copying, running checks, and processing payroll.Attends educational and informational meetings.Performs other related duties as required.MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Four year degree in accounting, business law, or computer operations preferred, with a minimum of six years experience as an Accountant, Auditor, or Treasurer; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.MINIMUM ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Physical Requirements:Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines and equipment, including, but not limited to: computer, typewriter, facsimile machine, copier, and telephone.Must be able to move or carry job-related objects or materials. Must be physically capable of reaching to obtain various books, printouts, file boxes, computer paper, etc.Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for sedentary or office environment work.Accountabilities Shared By Managers and Supervisors 1.
