Job Description : The Spring Lake Bath & Tennis Club (B&T) is located in Spring Lake, New Jersey. Located adjacent to the beautiful Spring Lake beach and boardwalk, the club is one of the most unique venues of its kind.The B&T is a distinguished private club, which has been in operation since 1898 providing exceptional services to members, their families and guests. The club boasts spectacular recreational facilities including ten Har-Tru tennis courts, and several beautiful pools. Clubhouse facilities include a ballroom, grill room, poolside dining, snack bar and several bar areas.The active social and entertainment season at the B&T is complete with weekend dinner dances, poolside music and deck parties. The sports season is complete with professional swim and tennis instruction. There are four seasons at the B&T. The summer season is the busiest with member usage for roughly 16 weeks, two shoulder seasons used primarily for private parties (weddings), and the winter months are reserved for preventive club maintenance and capital projects.SUMMARY: This position is responsible for all aspects of the financial accounting and reporting for the Club. The financial responsibilities include 1) the monthly/quarterly/annual book close. 2) general accounting (book close) functions, 3) maintenance of internal controls, and 4) analysis of results, primarily focusing on variances as compared to the prior year. One of the key responsibilities of this position is to ensure that 1) all balance sheet accounts are reconciled appropriately, 2) accruals are properly recorded and supportable, and 3) unique or unusual items are highlighted and disclosed internally.This position will analyze and document the accounting conclusions reached for such transactions and will review with the General Manager, Club Treasurer, Club Finance Committee, Club President and external auditors. This position is responsible for analyzing newly issued and proposed accounting pronouncements and will take the lead in the Clubs implementation of new accounting standards. One key aspect of this position is to be pro-active in reviewing complicated planned transactions to ensure that the structure/legal form achieves the desired accounting outcome.MAIN DUTIES/FUNCTIONS: Timely and accurate reporting of the Club’s financial results, including providing the appropriate insight and analysis of monthly and quarterly results.Ability to analyze results – highlighting significant items recorded during the month/quarter.Provides detailed explanations comparing the current quarter’s results to the prior year results.Responsible for appropriate review and coding of invoices/journal entries affecting areas responsible for.Analysis of balance sheet accounts for all of the divisions that fall under this Controllership function. This includes ensuring that all balance sheet accounts are reconciled appropriately and that balances for such accounts are supportable.Establishes schedules for the completion and review of all periodic reporting requirements and ensures that these requirements are met.Maintenance of internal controlsResponsible for developing process improvements—Ability to determine efficiencies with respect to divisional accounting and reporting.Develops accounting policies and publishes them internally. Periodically reviews current policies to determine if revisions are required.Responsible for Club training on accounting issues, including impacts of new accounting pronouncements.Develops and is responsible for certain elements of the Club’s quarterly/annual financial statements, including the accounting policies, and new pronouncements.Responsible for developing and distributing Food & Beverage analyses of the potential impacts of newly issued and proposed accounting standards.Reviews and analyzes financial and operating reports on a daily basis and initiates action to improve performance.Develop P&L statements for club activities, membership dues, minimums and F&B outlets.Coordinates the development of operating and capital budgets according to the budget calendar in partnership with the Club Treasurer while monitoring monthly financial statements.Approve all payroll expenses and evaluate efficiencies as necessary.Negotiate and manage contracts with vendorsTax complianceEnsure compliance with state and federal human resource requirements.SUPERVISION: Accounts Payable & Receivable Coordinator (s)REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum 5 years’ accounting experience, and a controllership type position at a public or not for profit organization.Strong career track record of growth and achievementsHands on experience in a Controllership (book close) positionExperience with General Ledger Systems and the ability to pull data/reports as appropriate.Experience in private luxury hospitality club settings is preferred.Ability to analyze and interpret financial data with an emphasis on a budget planning model necessary.
