Job Description : Locally owned school furniture company is looking for a senior leader responsible for the finance/accounting department to join their team as the Controller. This person must have solid communication, technology, analytical and management skills. Candidate should possess knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Seven years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required. Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued. This position is 100% in office (Lakewood area), Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm. This is a family-owned business that offers a competitive salary and robust benefits package.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting operational functions including: o Account Receivable / Account Payable o Credit Card Chargebacks o Aging Reports and customer follow up o Bank reconciliation o Monthly financial statements o Preparation of tax package for outside accounting firm o Coordinating activities of external auditors o State sales tax audits o Sales TaxProcess payroll o Prepare ACH semi-monthly payroll and bonus checks (W2 and 1099)HR benefit administration o Year-end schedules for 3rd party 5500 prep and annual contribution calc o Assist 3rd party admin w/ employee 401k/pension distributions o Work with President on annual review of insurance benefits o 401k/HSA contributionsQuarterly and annual tax returnsMaintain reseller/customer exempt certificates & business licensesReconcile Avalara to GP sales by stateOversee regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and complianceManage current accounting team and hire and train new team members joining the accounting departmentAssess current accounting operations as needed o Evaluate accounting and internal control systems o Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database o Offer recommendations for improvement o Implement new processesThe requirements above describe the general nature and level of work performed by employee; but is not a complete list of responsibilities, duties and skills required.
