POSITION PURPOSE
The Corporate Staff Accountant assists with a variety of accounting duties related to management (internal) reporting and regulatory (external) reporting for corporate overhead and corporate operating units. This position assists in all phases of the accounting close process, including but not limited to, preparing journal entries, analyzing corporate overhead costs, reconciling general ledger accounts, special projects, and preparing ad hoc reports.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
Uploads journal entries from monthly corporate accounting journal; maintains support for entries.
Identifies issues; uploads adjusting entries related to these issues; maintains support for entries.
Ensures deadlines are met per monthly close calendar distributed by internal financial reporting.
Analyze and understand corporate overhead/general & administrative costs.
Analyze and understand profit & loss statements of corporate operating units.
Validates accuracy of corporate financial statements (income statement, G&A, balance sheet).
Understand & accurately reconcile general ledger accounts as assigned.
Prepares financial reporting packages quarterly for the regulatory (external) reporting group.
Prepares packages for debt, self-insurance, marketable securities, benefits, corporate, etc.
Prepare meaningful ad hoc reports/schedules and special projects when requested.
Prepare financial schedules and/or financial information for management reporting package (MRP).
Works closely with corporate HQ department heads on accounting issues affecting departmental P&Ls.
Research & analyze transactions.
Researches/completes requests from external auditors as requested and with little supervision.
Researches/completes requests from internal audit/controls as requested and with little supervision.
Ensure SOX compliance through documentation of journal entries & general ledger account reconciliations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting
0-4 years of relevant accounting experience
Analytical and technical accounting skills required
Microsoft Office skills required
Public accounting experience beneficial
Healthcare accounting experience beneficial
Partnership accounting experience beneficial
PeopleSoft general ledger experience beneficial
Skills and Abilities:
Oral communication, written communication, fluency in English, active listening.
Information ordering, deductive reasoning, social perceptiveness, time management, critical thinking.
Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines in a detail-oriented manner.
Ability to work independently without continuous supervision.
