Job Description : The Assistant Controller must have a sense of urgency and thirst for learning. This individual will be responsible for providing high-level value to the Company through performing the following:Calculate and present standard cost rates to achieve full absorptionMaintain cost accounting system, data integrity and consistencyReview labor and material variances in a forward-looking mannerIdentify all fixed and variable costs resulting in the development of product line contribution marginsWork with Controller to create monitor and report on the budget, including meeting with departments to discuss monthly results and recommended areas of improvementAnalyze and interpret cost financial data and recommend changes to improve costs and systemsMaintain fixed asset systemStudy, and collect data to determine costs of business activity for labor and conversion expenses. Calculate labor and conversion standard ratesAnalyze costs and prepare value add reportsAnalyze actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costsProduce labor efficiency reportingAssist in Month End close of the General Ledger for the reconciliation of inventory and variance accounts, fixed assets, commissions, rebates and other general ledger accounts as neededPrepare monthly Site, Product Line, Contribution Margin, Industry, and Industry Revenue financial reportsAssist Controller with budgeting, variance reporting and reconciliationUnderstand A/R, A/P, Payroll and G/L processes and be able to perform functions as neededUnderstand the assimilation of all financial data and preparation of financial reportsPrepare value add cost accounting and operating reports resulting in recommended changes to improve profitabilityUnderstanding and accumulating the cost of business units and prepare the related financial resultsDevelop material cost ratesEnsure all costs are allocated to the appropriate work centersIdentify, analyze, and interpret data trends or patternsRESPONSIBILITIESPlanning, studying, and collecting data to determine costs of business activity such as labor and overheadDeveloping cost ratesEnsuring all costs are allocated to the appropriate work centersAnalyzing costs and preparing value add reportsIdentifying, analyzing, and interpreting data trends or patternsAnalyzing actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costsDeveloping labor efficiency reporting and working closely with plant personal to report on achievement of productivity goalsAnalysis and reporting on factors affecting profitability of productsAssisting in Month End close of the General Ledger with heavy involvement in the reconciliation of inventory and variance accounts, fixed assets, and other general ledger accounts as neededPreparing monthly financial reportsAssisting Financial Manager with budgeting, variance reporting and reconciliationQUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s Degree in AccountingMinimum of 4 – 7 years of Cost Accounting in a manufacturing environmentStrong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detailMust have a strong Cost systems background, excellent analytical skills, sound understanding of accounting principlesData analysis skills with the ability to translate numbers into useful data to help the Company make sound business decisionsSolid understanding of SQL Management Studio and Enterprise Applications.
