Job Description : POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cost Accounting position reviews current and future item costs, inventory levels, and manufacturing variances to ensure proper COGS and selling prices. Ensures all inventory costs are accounted for correctly which helps ensure correct pricing. Reviews and creates new project cost estimates for project feasibility. Manages expense accounts to ensure proper allocation and budgeting.

POSITION DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Ensure correct costs in inventory system for buy, make, and supply items. Update buy items with new vendor pricing on a monthly basis and ensure all make and supply Bills of Materials have correct material, labor, and overhead costs.
Analyze inventory, expense, and variance accounts throughout the month ensuring accurate and timely entries. Review account activity to identify trends. Provide ad hoc analysis of these accounts as required.
Analyze sales, COGS, inventory and expense accounts to ensure accuracy. Create and post any journal entries that are required during that time.
Review sales, COGS, and margins for month-end close, looking for key performance drivers.
Provide information to others in Finance as part of department workflow.
Provide detailed analysis to SLT, department heads, and others who need cost, expense, or budget information. These ad-hoc reports vary day-to-day and week-to-week.
Provide monthly budget reports for SLT members to review. Analyze budgets to ensure accuracy. Help prepare budgets and upload into Fourth Shift.
Provide estimated COGS on new products and any information required for project meetings.
Coordinate cost team meetings that meet in parallel with new product meetings, and provide updated cost information to team members.
Work with Marketing and Product Development on future pricing for all product lines.
Facilitate external auditors during on-site inventory test counts.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
Advanced knowledge of accounting practices and procedures. Ability to oversee small project teams to ensure timely communication of sensitive material. Advanced skills in all Microsoft Office programs and an MRP system. Ability to multi-task to ensure timely completion of daily, weekly, monthly, and ad-hoc requirements. Ability to research variances and provide analysis and interpretation of the drivers. Responsible for setting own goals and working independently. Advanced written and verbal communication skills are a plus.
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is preferred along with 1 – 5 years of experience in cost accounting or general accounting.
