Job Summary
The Cost Accountant supports the mission of Travis Association for the Blind (TAB) by accurately reflecting job and product costs in the ERP manufacturing module; which allows TAB to accurately price products and remain competitive in the marketplace. This position ensures that TAB maintains accurate cost of goods sold and inventory values.
Responsibilities
Periodically review BOMs, routings, and item master data for establishing and maintaining standard costs
Prepare monthly reports and analysis used to reconcile and validate COGS, gross margin, purchase price variance, inventory movements and balances along with various manufacturing variances
Assist with forecasts and budgets relating to revenue, COGS and margin analysis
Manage inventory accounting activities including working with operations to improve work order cost tracking and inventory transaction accuracy
Responsible for coordinating physical inventory planning
Manage internal controls including shipping and receiving cutoff
Responsible to determine and update overhead analysis to determine overhead rates to apply to inventory
Provide thoughtful analysis and proactively identify areas of focus for cost savings and track anticipated product cost savings reduction plans
Assist with general accounting responsibilities such as balance sheet reconciliations and closing activities
Liaising with operations, finance and production in a business partnering capacity
Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology.
Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.
Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
Appraise, evaluate, and inventory real property and equipment, recording information such as the description, value, and location of property.
Complies with and assists other employees in understanding and complying with TAB’s policies and procedures.

Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred
Must have at least 5 years of experience as cost accountant
Physical Requirements
With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to:
Prolonged periods of working on a computer
Ability to be in a stationary position (stand/sit) for 6-8 hours
Ability to lift/move up to 10 lbs. at times
Ability to bend, stoop, squat, adjust position for 5% of time
Ability to operate standard office equipment such as: computer, printer, scanner, phone, etc.
