The Role in Brief:
Accounting Manager
Reporting to the Controller, this person is responsible for the daily operational activities of the General Ledger team in the Accounting Department.
This role will be based in Richmond, VA.
Primary Responsibilities:
Manage the day-to-day operations of the General Ledger Accounting team
Lead and supervise the General Ledger Accounting team during the closing process to ensure close deadlines are met
Prepare or review journal entries for monthly, quarterly, and annual closings
Ensure the integrity of financial records inclusive of required monthly account reconciliations and explanation of key financial and operational variances
Maintain the integrity of the General Ledger to allow for the correct capture of financial activity to include direct costs (labor, material, and postage), commissions, fixed assets, leases, accruals, etc.
Coordinate with the Tax Director for recording tax expense and liabilities
Support the Financial Planning and Analysis team in variance analysis and reporting
Administer the corporate banking relationships
Serve as backup for Senior Director of Finance for vacation coverage, etc. for Accounts Payable team
Work as a Salesforce superuser to improve utilization of Salesforce and FinancialForce, as well as testing upgrades and enhancements
Work cross-functionally with other departments on new initiatives to understand the financial impact and ensure accounting issues and transactions are identified, documented, and properly recorded within the accounting records
Support the Controller in maintaining a strong internal control environment
Interface with internal and external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audit
Other miscellaneous Finance projects as necessary
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and an active professional certification (CPA)
Must have solid background in U.S. GAAP principles
Minimum 6 years of related work experience
Experience with Microsoft Office, spreadsheet, and database applications
Ability to research issues and create or review documentation/memos supporting accounting and internal controls conclusions
Discretion in dealing with confidential material
Able to think clearly and reach well founded conclusions and articulate ideas crisply and concisely
Able to work under tight timelines and reprioritize work as needed
Ability to work independently
Ideal Qualifications:
Practical experience in public accounting and/or corporate accounting
Excellent technical interpretation and verbal communication skills
Desire to work in a team environment
High level of commitment and integrity
Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple competing priorities
Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment
