Summary of Position:
The Payroll Accountant is responsible for maintaining and reconciling payroll-related records and transactions. The Payroll Accountant will also serve as backup to processing payroll and assist with 401K plan administration and audits as needed. The Payroll Accountant approaches their job the Red Mountain Way on a daily basis.
Job Functions:
Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
Post payroll records to the general ledger.
Review and reconcile all payrolls after they have been processed.
Will serve as back-up to processing payroll.
Reconcile benefit general ledger accounts
Run reports from HCM system
Research, analyze, and resolve payroll-related problems and questions as assigned.
Prepare/assist with the preparation of periodic/special reports as assigned.
Help with customer service in the payroll department as needed.
Maintain confidentiality of payroll operations and data.
Assist with 401K plan administration and annual audit.
Helps in facilitating audits as directed by the supervisor by providing records and documentation to auditors.
Helps to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Must be proficient in Excel to include experience with V-lookup and pivot tables.
Must have experience posting to the general ledger.
Ability to quickly learn and utilize all necessary software programs.
UKG Pro/UKG Ready experience preferred.
Knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma, Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred
Minimum 3 years in a business environment and prior payroll experience
