Job Description : PROCESS RESPOSNIBILITYPlans, organized and supervises activities in the hospital pharmacy areas according to hospital policies and directives, good pharmaceutical practice, standard practices of the profession and pharmacy legislation.Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environment and injection control standards.Submits written reports and recommendations regarding Pharmacy Department. Such reports shall be provided as required.Implements decisions of the drug Committee meetings. Actively participates as a member of the committees as required.Establishes a formulary system with the Drug Committee. Evaluates and reviews medications for addition to or deletion from the Formulary.Conduct Drug Utilization Reviews and prepares Drug Review Criteria for medical staff review and approval.Monitors drug therapy as assigned by medical staff; suggest alternative drug therapy when appropriate.Ensures secure storage of narcotics and other controlled substances on a regular basis.Checks that drugs ordered correspond with conditions of patients, overdoses do not occur, allergies and drug interactions have been excluded.Complies with Pharmacy Legislation and maintains all records in the center as required by the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and the Psychotropic Substances Regulations 1989.Reports and FormularyReviews nurse unit stock lists and maintains minimum stock.Provides doctors with Formulary.Monthly reports on goods received, pharmacy revenue and other reports as required by the accounts department & stock take and drug audits .Checks that medication orders entered into dispensing program are accurate and utilized software correctly.Pharmacy Policies and ProceduresReviews and advises the Administrator of patients concerns, and recommends changes in policies and procedures.Investigates reports of incidents, medication errors and patient complaints. Resolves problems or makes recommendations for action.Communicating policy and procedure updates to pharmacy staff and other departments when necessary.PEOPLE AND ORGANISATION RESPONSIBILITYTakes responsibility for all pharmacy staff who report to the position. · Provides on job orientation to pharmacists and keeps them informed of the philosophies, policies, and procedures to be followed in caring for patients and their families. ·Provides for in-service and/or continuing education for the pharmacy staff · Evaluates the work performance of the staff.Sanctions and recommends leave and vacation schedules for the staff. · Counsels staff on personal and work problems.Plans staff work assignments and schedules.Provides Basic department orientation to new employees .Develops interdisciplinary communication with nursing and medical staff.Co-operates with nursing to improve patient care through in-service teaching.
