They are at the heart of everything we do.Summary: The Senior Cost Accountant ensures the accuracy and integrity of the company’s inventory and cost accounting as well as gross margin reporting functions. Working under the supervision of the VP of Finance, the Senior Cost Accountant will be responsible for the ongoing accounting, analysis and reporting of inventory, cost of goods sold and gross margin. The Senior Cost Accountant will provide leadership in process development, documentation and improvements for these areas while acting as the primary point-person as a cross-functional, organization wide liaison to support business operations and key decision making.Key Responsibilities: Prepare month-end cost accounting journal entries and account reconciliations. Maintains and updates cost accounting inputs in ERP, as part of the monthly close.Manages accounting for overhead including updates to assumptions and completion of cost allocation journal entries.Works with VP of Finance to locate, dispose of, or establish reserves for obsolete inventory as needed.Reviews and analyzes actual cost of goods sold and related balance sheet accounts to ensure completeness and accuracy.Reviews standard and actual costs for inaccuracies.Develops, standardizes, and enhances systems and procedures for cost accounting and gross margin functions. Focuses on creation of analysis tools and company-wide reporting with use of best practices.Enhances processes to review Bill of Material (BOM) set up for accuracy and completeness; enhance ongoing review procedures.Works with VP of Finance to review and approve discount proposals.Assists in preparation, review and updates to Operations budget and forecast.Engages as a primary subject matter expert for gross margin, collaborates cross-functionally and provides clear guidance across all key stakeholder groups.Partners with the Product Team to assist in pricing and make/buy decisions; ensure alignment on gross margin impact as it relates to Company financial targets.Prepares monthly gross margin financial metrics to be reviewed with VP of Finance.Assists Accounting Team in the completion of the monthly close and financial reporting processes as related to gross margin and cost accounting, as needed.Design and lead annual physical inventory count process. Act as liaison between auditors and internal team for inventory related audit procedures and compliance.Additional Functions: Participates in project teams, as necessary, to facilitate review of new deals/transactions, process improvements and address changing business requirements.Maintains and updates accounting policies, procedures, and white papers on key issues relevant to gross margin.Works closely with various business units on ad hoc assignments in improving the overall financial efficiency and profitability for the organization.Prepares timely and accurate reports, variance analysis and commentary as needed.Assist in the development of annual forecast and budgets.Assist with the monthly close process and preparation of financial statements.Special projects as assigned.Competencies: Teamwork – Be trustworthy, treat others with respect, help others learn, ask for help and don’t toss blame – we are all in this together.Communication – Be timely in relaying information or getting answers.Change – Be nimble, never cynical. Share your knowledge freely and empower others.Innovation – Continually review systems suggesting ways and tools to improve.Self-Review – Be 1% better every day.Qualifications & Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or a related field.5 plus years of year previous accounting work experience; with cost accounting included.Public accounting experience a plus.Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Strong Excel skills.Previous ERP experience a plus, SAP experience preferred.Able to organize and manage own work.Working knowledge of US GAAP.Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to interact effectively with all levels throughout Company organization.Job Conditions: Standard office environment.COVID-19 SAFETY PRECAUTIONSThe health and safety of our employees is our top priority.
