SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for all aspects of Amtrak’s accounting of fixed assets, including but not limited to, set-up, monitoring, accounting, and reporting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Prepare/review daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations and flux reporting for accuracy
Prepare/review/upload journal entries.
Review/approve WBSE requests and Purchase Requests in assigned departments.
Assist in month end and year end close processes within PowerPlan.
Review depreciation and analyze depreciation schedules for accuracy.
Preparing detailed Work-in-Progress review for assigned departments.
Prepare PowerPlan capitalization/retirement analysis/entries for assigned departments.
Frequently interfacing independently with functional departments to provide assistance in the set-up, explanation and overall management of capital projects as is deemed necessary.
Assisting in internal and external audit requests within Capital and Inventory Accounting area.
Lead / assist in ad hoc requests and projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
Fixed asset accounting experience
Strong analytical capability
Strong working knowledge of Excel and other MS office applications
3 years relevant experience
Ability to serve as an effective member of a cohesive and cooperative team
Ability to visualize, plan, negotiate and focus others to implement change
Ability to clearly describe or explain information, concepts, ideas and instructions to others.
Ability to comprehend various business processes and quickly grasp new concepts, approaches and systems.
Ability to engage in analytical thinking and the capacity to control system data in accordance with corporate policies and procedures.
Ability to collect, organize and analyze qualitative and quantitative data.
Ability to multi-task effectively and patiently while remaining flexible in an ever-changing, fast paced environment.
Problem solving capability in pressure situations
Superior written communications skills
Strong interpersonal communication skills with good listing and speaking skills.
Demonstrated reliability through excellent attendance record and satisfactory work performance history
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong working knowledge of PowerPlan, SAP and other Amtrak applications
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
Professional Certification
MBA
4 – 6 years of relevant experience
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
