Job Description : POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant in Inventory Accounting is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures for various month end closing journal entries, account reconciliations, preparation of accurate and timely financial reports and statements and to ensure appropriate accounting control procedures to close the financial period and audit support. This position will analyze and communicate the inventory story and position to management. This position is key to the annual standard costing process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Major responsibilities of the position are listed below. To perform the job successfully, the individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties, assignments and specific projects may be assigned at the discretion of executive management.

Maintain the databases utilized for month-end close processes, annual reporting and standards review processes (SAP, Oracle, Profit, Access databases).

Perform and own month-end closing responsibilities for assigned inventory activity including data pulling, analyzing, and completing journal entries and account reconciliations.

Perform annual standard cost roll process (data pulling, create input sheet for review, upload approved changes, maintain database for side-by-side reporting).

Working with business partners to understand transaction flow, track, and reconcile inventory through SAP and/or Oracle.

Analyze and explain unusual variances in assigned accounts.

Document and audit accounting processes for SAP/Oracle in relation to inventory and costing.

Prepare lead schedules for audit activity.

Perform various activities as assigned for both internal and external audits.

Identify and ensure proper internal controls are in place and assist in internal control and process testing. Such as plant set-up and production and costing processes.

Perform accounting research and ability to interpret guidance for practical application.

Supply back-up support with cost accounting functions.

Identify areas of improvements and cost savings and be a proactive advocate of change through analysis of the business processes.

Perform special projects as requested by management and other job duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business is required. Master’s degree in related field preferred.
5+ years of accounting experience with strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
CPA or CMA preferred.
Inventory/cost accounting with manufacturing knowledge preferred.
Strong Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas) and Microsoft Access required.
SAP and Oracle experience preferred.
Execute responsibilities with a sense of urgency and follow through.
Be a proactive advocate of change through analysis of the business processes.
