POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant is responsible for applying principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. Performs related work as required. May require independent judgment in the disposition of routine matters without direct supervision. Will work under the direct supervision of the Controller.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides support for the department. In addition to other duties as assigned, will compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions. Will monitor compliance with POA procedures with generally accepted accounting principles.
EXAMPLES OF WORK (Illustrative Only)
Inventories physical counts for Golf Maintenance; five pro shops; two recreation centers; Vehicle Maintenance; Office Services; and monthly adjust entries to balance counts with the general ledger. Investigate any significant long/short for all inventories including fuel and unusual percentages for pro shop cost of goods.
Makes month-end journal entries for City Sanitation Contract (plus check requests for City & Republic Services); interdepartmental transfers for fuel, chemicals/seed, office supplies, vehicle parts; vacation and payroll accruals; Flex and Health bank account activity.
Records work orders for vehicles; buildings; HVAC; Record Club Subsidies; IT billings to departments; sales/use/beverage tax adjustments; down load payroll entries from On-line PR Service Provider.
Reconciles balance sheet on all accounts not reconciled by the Controller, franchise tax remittance and 401k balancing of remittance and loan payments.
Sends bank balance spreadsheet weekly to Treasurer to facilitate investment opportunities.
Maintains inventory of fixed assets and inventory records for goods sold or used. Adding from CIP, monthly depreciation, balance assets/depreciation to the general ledger, prepares for year-end audit.
Serves as backup for payroll processing.
Assists Controller and Treasurer as needed
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Must have a Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
