POSITION TITLE: Staff Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant prepares journal entries, provides analysis for routine transactions and reconciles lower-risk general ledger accounts. Under management direction, provides general assistance to the department.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Records journal entries and prepares financial/accounting analyses, schedules, statements, reconciliations and reports for areas of lower risk and complexity. May work with higher-risk and more complex areas under direct supervision.
Prepares audit schedules and provides analytical data to assist auditors as appropriate.
Provides general assistance to other staff and management as requested.
Maintains current working knowledge and reviews/monitors for adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Assists with monitoring of internal controls.
Creates and maintains standard operating procedures.
Assists with special projects in conjunction with Senior Accountants and/or Accounting Manager.
Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance.
CPA or CPA candidate preferred but not required.
Minimum two years of professional-level accounting experience preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills that are appropriate for the given situation.
General understanding of processes and controls.
Experience working with large ERP systems preferred.
Self-starter with solid organizational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple priorities or reprioritize projects.
Strong Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
May include: Stationary position for an extended period of time, lifting, traverse campus/facility as needed, operate machinery such as computer, phone, copy machine; exposure to cold or hot temperatures.
