Job Description : Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Staff or Senior level Accountant to join out Finance team. Services performed include, but are not limited to preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, interpreting and implementing MSOE policies, responding to audit requests, and supporting Accounting personnel. The Accountant provides superior customer service to MSOE’s students and customers.

Essential Job Functions
Preparation of adjustments, journal entries, data entry, and posting, on a monthly or as needed basis, to ensure integrity of the general ledger and financial statements.
Timely reconciliation of various accounts.
Audit preparation, planning and completion of PBC’s, required schedules and financials.
Assist in the development of documentation, implementation and improvement of financial policies and procedures.
Research, track and resolve accounting issues.
Advise Director of Finance on accounting issues.
Participate in the maintenance of accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP and facilitate information flow by working collaboratively with other University departments.
Prepare various financial statements and reports for the University, auditors, regulatory agencies, and others both internal and external to the University.
Analyze and recommend accounting and financial reporting improvements with a goal of using systems effectively and efficiently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and strong internal controls.
Ensure that all transactions are made in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Federal, State and University guidelines.
Work independently, with broadly defined work objectives and limited review of overall results.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain the fixed asset ledgers by recording additions, disposals, and depreciation, which reconcile with the general ledger.
Work with internal MSOE departments to maintain accuracy of accounting of school meal plans.
Work with Advancement and other departments related to their spend of donor restricted funds.
Reconcile A/R Auxiliary accounts monthly and collaborate with associated departments to maintain accurate records.
With guidance from the Associate VP of Finance, ensure proper accounting for all grant activity.
Provide back up support for the daily cash management, including fraud controls, transfers and internal reporting when needed.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
2+ years of professional accounting experience preferred.
Understanding of basic accounting concepts.
Ability to work both independently and with teams in a deadline and detail-oriented environment.
Adept at troubleshooting, problem solving and responding to customer requests.
Ability to deal sensitively with confidential data and use sound judgment is a must.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Proficient in the use of an ERP accounting system with the ability to adapt computer skills to new systems.
Ability to interpret, reconcile, comprehend, and perform research on accounting records.
Excellent qualitative and analytical skills.
Proven problem solver.
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Accuracy and attention to detail in daily work.
Ability to keep complex records, to assemble and organize data.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships and function as a team player.
Strong customer service skills and focus with the ability to see issues through to resolution.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before others. Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral form.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to use numbers to solve problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job the employee is largely sedentary, the ability to move is required. The employee is occasionally required to traverse within their work area as well as other areas on campus.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
