About the Indiana Department of Revenue:
The Indiana Department of Revenue is responsible for providing service to Indiana citizens regarding state tax matters. Additionally, the department administers state tax laws, develops regulations and makes decisions about tax policy. About the Job:
To provide the Indiana interstate commercial trucking entities with services that promote compliance with the international registration plan, the international fuel tax agreement and comply with Indiana registration requirements. The objective of this position is to facilitate registration compliance in a manner that allows the customer to register their vehicles, make payment, and obtain credentials as conveniently and quickly as possible.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Analyze and process applications for new IRP/IFTA accounts, renewals, and other transactions. Ensure compliance with state, federal and international standards. Accurate reporting, and correct calculation of registration fees for all continental United States and the Canadian provinces.
Provide general to complex customer assistance via telephone, mail, email, fax, or in person at our Customer Service Center.
Provide specific troubleshooting and other technical as well as compliance assistance to customers engaged in electronic filing processes.
Research and analyze the customer’s profile with the department of revenue ensuring total tax law compliance before issuing operating credentials.
Coordinate enforcement efforts with the Indiana State Police, Motor Carrier Enforcement Division.
Recommend revisions to reporting forms, instructions and other informational documents based on a review and in depth understanding of new laws, policies, and procedures.
Assist with e-mail and eRenewals.
Process all documents which are placed in DTS (Document Tracking System) on behalf of the carriers.
Performs related work as assigned.
Ability to process titles for individual/company using the BMV STARS system accurately and efficiently.

Considerable knowledge of the International Registration Plan and state registration requirements and Indiana Base Plate program through the department.
Analyze reported vehicle, jurisdictional, and mileage data to ensure its consistency with all statutory and contractual requirements.
Effective communication skills and the ability to transmit complex information in a manner that is easy to understand.
Thorough knowledge of issuing procedures and computer processing systems.
Ability to coordinate quick and effective communications with other state agencies to expedite customer service while ensuring proper registration.
Working knowledge of the Indiana Code relating to vehicle registration.
Broad knowledge of violation and citation procedures, as well as penalties for noncompliance with registration procedures.
Practical knowledge of the ACD telephone system.
Ability to understand and apply ethics and confidentiality laws.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
