The Team
The SAP Central Infrastructure Operations team, a unit of Global Cloud Services, is looking for experienced Network Engineers for it’s Plus One team. This unit is newly formed: We are in the midst of a great transformation inside Central Infrastructure Operations, and some workflow definitions are in flux, so flexibility within the team as we evolve is a must! You must demonstrate the ability to be successful in a fluid, agile, and team-oriented environment. Many of the roles these teams are to play are currently being performed by managed service providers; we are in the process of building our own support teams to take over these functions. 2022 is the transition year. In addition to the many initiatives to improve upon our network designs and operating models, we are also in transition to Infrastructure as Code (IaC), fully automating the network infrastructure operations.
This team will be responsible for the operations of several services crucial to SAP. Data Center Internet access, SAP One backbone linking all core data centers together, Out-of-band management to Data centers, Public Cloud Interconnect and more.
In the interim, there is still manual work to be performed, and your contribution to network excellence helps shape our future and yours.
The Role
Operate and maintain Internet and intra data center WAN networks, track significant problems, monitor performance, and perform upgrades to hardware and software as required.
Respond to and resolve alerts and tickets generated from the monitoring system and/or customer requests in agreed SLA’s.
Monitors, manages reports on incoming work, provisioning of standard service requests, and incident resolution.
Confers with Level 4 support for deep level incident troubleshooting standard and complex change management.
Other support tasks, duties, and responsibilities, e.g. hardware installations, troubleshooting, and administration.
Assist in the design and implementation of new services and locations in coordination with Level 4 teams
Cross-platform communication and coordination for project implementation and rollout
Communicate with service providers for connections down or modifications to existing services
Ability to Leverage network telemetry data such as CA Spectrum, Splunk, CA PC, NetBrain, Prometheus, Grafan & Kibana to rapidly troubleshoot issues and resolve any disruptions.
The Role Requirements
Minimum 3 years of WAN technologies infrastructure experience CCNA Required, CCNP preferred
Ability to create run books for complex changes and troubleshooting
Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions
Ability to work with L4 on solutioning
Ability to understand software defined network
Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including data center EVPN switching, routers, switches
Good experience cross vendor network operating systems (e.g. IOS XE, NXOS, IOS XR, eOS) and network technologies (BGP, MPLS, Segment Routing, HSRP, VRRP, Routing Domains, VLANís, VxLAN, VRF, etc.)
Analyitical and problem thinking
In depth knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol suite
Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and internet resources
Ability to work with all levels of staff within and outside of IT and cross organizations
Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols
A self-starter able to work independently but comfortable working in a team environment
Good analytical and problem-solving skills
Network security experience
Ability to work as part of a multicultural environment as a team player
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Command of the English language is required
Proficiency in German a plus

ITIL Process knowledge

Willingness to work rotating on-call shifts, to suport 24×7 Operations
