Job Description : Job Purpose

This Backup Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing a team of backup administrators to support the daily backups and the environments that they run on.

The backup servers run Veritas NetBackup software on Linux and Windows Operating System platforms.

As a team leader, you will be responsible for coordinating the daily team activities as well as being the point person for next level management as well as handling real-time issues as they arise. Additionally, the Backup Engineering Manager is expected to be hands-on in all team activities such as performing root cause analysis of problems, identifying areas for process improvement, remediation of issues, and execution of tasks to deliver on project-based initiatives.

Responsibilities

Oversee local Backup Administration team

Provide first level support for all backup related issues across the enterprise

Respond to and assist in production operations in a 24/7 environment

Provide support to, and coordinate with, US based backup engineers, operations staff, and end-users

Educate and mentor team members and operations staff

Provide technical analysis, resolve problems, and propose solutions

Participate as a resource for project driven initiatives

Provide daily/weekly team updates to upstream management.

Knowledge and Experience

Senior level experience using

Veritas NetBackup experience in a large heterogeneous enterprise and/or Veritas Certified Specialist (VCS).

Prior experience as a Team Leader

Knowledge of Systems Administration in RedHat Enterprise Linux or Microsoft Windows Operating systems

Knowledge of Oracle ACSLS, Dell EMC Data Domain, Veritas Appliances, Oracle SL3000/SL4000/SL8500 tape silos

Knowledge of TCP/IP networks, routing, and its importance to data backups

Knowledge of Domain Name Services (DNS) bind and its role in data backups

Good English speaking and writing skills and ability to document procedures

Ability to work as a team, collaborate with team members and share information

Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and business resources

Familiarity with reporting tools (OpsCenter Analytics, Tableau, Microsoft Excel)

Familiarity with Service Now ticketing tool

NetBackup database agents including Oracle RMAN, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Exchange is a plus.

Knowledge of Fiber Channel technology, switches, and SAN Fabrics is a plus

Knowledge of other enterprise backup software products (such as Commvault Simpana, Microsoft Data Protection Manager (DPM),

Spectrum Protect/TSM) is a plus

Preferred, but not required:
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience in Backup Engineering

Storage Engineering experience
