Job Description : The Platform Services group is responsible for defining, developing, and operating cloud products consumed by our Application Development Partners across the firm. Our Product Portfolio includes Private and Public Cloud Platforms and a wide range of services such as databases, messaging, and telemetry.
Our Cloud Software Engineers are developing these strategic service offerings, to be consumed at scale, by thousands of business-critical applications.
Integrating with our rapidly evolving cloud eco-system to ensure a consistent, reliable, easily consumed service is fundamental to this challenge, as is bringing to bear the experience of our product teams across Platform Services, and developing common libraries and components, so collaboration is at the heart of everything we do.
PostgreSQL has recently been added to the roster of strategic cloud database products, and as a member of the PostgreSQL Service Engineering team you will be contributing to the design, development, and support of this new service.
Your role in our Agile development team will involve much more than just writing code – we are responsible for understanding our users’ needs, designing and implementing effective solutions, managing the delivery into our production environment, and supporting the service. Whilst developing our control plane in Python, which will provision and manage the database instances, you will also build a solid understanding of the PostgreSQL database product and its administration.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the architectural design and evolution of our service.
Analyze requirements from our users, and our upstream and downstream dependencies.
Develop components and features of our control plane, written in Python.
Collaborate across multiple teams to ensure seamless integration with our cloud platform and maximize code re-use.
Share knowledge with, guide and mentor other members of the team with different areas/levels of expertise.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
software development experience with one or more general purpose programming languages such as Python (preferred), Java, C++, or C#
Experience of contributing to the architecture and design of new and existing systems
Thorough understanding of Agile / Lean Software Development principles and practices
Thorough understanding of modern software development concepts and practices
Thorough knowledge of automated testing types, strategies, and tools

Preferred Qualifications

Designing and building Web Services and RESTful / GraphQL APIs at scale
Experience of using or administering PostgreSQL databases
Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Salt, Ansible, Terraform or Puppet
Web UI development experience using React, Angular or similar
Awareness of cloud application design considerations
