About Transforming Agriculture for Small Farmers
The TASF (Transforming Agriculture for Small Farmers) team is aiming to improve the lives of tens of millions of smallholder farmers. We are planning to do this by getting companies with innovative interventions – who are currently focusing on mid and large farmers – to serve small farmers. This will involve helping develop commercially viable solutions, getting companies that are open to serving small farmers to adopt them, and in the longer term, both creating an enabling ecosystem that supports such efforts and addresses ecosystem barriers as they arise. We will be actively scanning the market to identify high potential interventions, using our networks to reach out to organizations working with such interventions so we can get them to partner with us, identifying potential commercially viable models, doing action research to understand and refine the models, engaging with others in the ecosystem interested in this target audience, etc. A more detailed description of this is in the document ‘Transforming Agriculture for Small Farmers – An Overview 2022 02 13′
We are looking for a Senior manager who can think through effective business models (that are also able to address the challenges of serving small farmers), can manage relationships with a core group of partners, enjoys working in the field to test out solutions and refine them, and will like working in a start-up environment (small team, varying roles, adjusting for changes on the ground including jumping on opportunities, etc). Depending on your interests, there will also be the potential to work in other areas – from doing impact assessment (value to the farmer) to engaging with the ecosystem to building the knowledge/database about this target group and our core areas of interest.
At The/Nudge you will:
understand small and marginal farmers’ value chain and conceptualize or refine products/services and processes to increase farmers’ income
understand collectivization models, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and the FPO ecosystem context and performance to be able to contextualize the work of our partners and our hypothesis
undertake action research and assess the impact for various existing and future products, services, and business models
identify and build relationships with partners in private, social, and government sectors to develop solutions and facilitate their implementation
work with our partners to assess and enhance the effectiveness of their approach and operations
understand the experience of our partners and others in the ecosystem to synthesize insights and learnings that we can share across the ecosystem
Apply if you have:
7-10 years of work experience in business/strategy roles with at least 4 years of experience in the private sector. You can be a graduate/postgraduate in any stream
strong analytical, problem-solving skills and experience in using data to obtain insights
the ability to understand consumer behaviour and can operate with a customer-centric approach
exceptional stakeholder management and relationship building skills
a strong action bias and want to learn by experimenting
comfort with ambiguity and working in a start-up environment
excellent communication (written & oral) and presentation skills
