Job Description : A MS in CS, Operations Research, Statistics, Machine Learning or other highly quantitative field.
3+ years of hands-on experience (academic or industrial) in machine learning, optimization, and large data analysis.
Strong coding and problem-solving skills in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, C++, etc.
Working knowledge of large-scale data processing (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
Solid theoretical understanding of broad machine learning concepts with deep expertise in at least one area including but not limited to natural language processing, computer vision, deep neural network, reinforcement learning

Amazon’s Taskless Tax Technology team operates software platforms that are among the largest in the world by volume and complexity. We interact upstream with all of Amazon’s businesses globally and the majority of our projects are cross-functional. As a Software Development Engineer, you will drive the architecture of next generation of tools and technologies for growing compliance needs of the organization as unlocking expansion in multiple countries and new businesses. You will be a role model to set an example for engineers in your team as well as influence across teams. You will build highly scaleable and secure softwares. You will develop algorithms for efficient and error free transactions as well as ensuring tractability of every transaction in real-time. You will build algorithms to get insights from transaction data for potential savings for Amazon. You will build processes that drive accountability within your team, where people assume and take responsibility for actions and decisions. You will solve problems at their root, stepping back to understand the broader context.

Key job responsibilities
As an applied machine learning scientist, you work with a team of scientists and engineers to drive research directions. You will propose and explore publication-worthy innovation in NLP and IR to build ML models trained on terabytes of data, which are evaluated using both offline metrics as well as online metrics from A/B testing. You will then integrate these models into the production that serves customers, closing the loop through data, modeling, application, and customer feedback. The chosen approaches for model architecture will balance business-defined performance metrics with the needs of millisecond response times.

Analyze the data and metrics resulting from traffic into Amazon’s Witholding Tax service
Analyze and extract relevant information from large amounts of both structured and unstructured data to help automate and optimize processes
Design, experiment and evaluate models
Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large scale data analyses, model development, model validation and model implementation
Research and implement novel machine learning, statistical and econometrics approaches
Publish and present your work at internal and external scientific venues in the fields of ML/NLP/IR

A PhD in CS, Operations Research, Statistics, Machine Learning or other highly quantitative fields.
At least one publication in a leading conference or journal related to machine learning.
Prior industrial work experience as an applied scientist in one of the following areas: Operations Research, Dynamic Programming, Machine Learning, Reinforcement Learning.
Experience using an object-oriented language to write production-ready code.
Strong record of publications in one of the following areas: Operations Research, Dynamic Programming, Machine Learning, Reinforcement Learning.
