Position Summary
Purpose
Perform all activities necessary for a QC Coating Inspection.
Duties & Responsibilities
Functions
Inspect all Industrial maintenance repainting works at offshore Installations and various ADNOC Offshore sites and ensure that all work comply with ADNOC Offshore Specifications and painting manual. The inspection covers assessment of coating condition of existing facilities, surface preparation, blasting/coating etc.
Co-ordination of ADNOC Offshore Painting requirements on all sites in consultation with designated ADNOC Offshore Engineers.
Inspect technically, all blasting works prior to painting including quality of blasted surfaces, surface profile/contamination either by salt or abrasion, grit type used, equipment ambient condition, adherence of specification/standards etc. Give guidance to workforce as necessary. Identify areas requiring re-blasting and makes contractor personnel aware of rectification of particular work. Check completed works.
Inspect all painting works such as surface cleanliness, contamination, type of materials to be used, manufacturers recommendations, mixing ratios, equipment and tools used, Batch numbers, paint’s shelf life, correct method of mixing, weather conditions while mixing and applying, method of application procedure in strict accordance with the specification etc.
Inspect each of the specification coats prior to commencement of the remaining coats.
Inspect all areas being coated, measures dry film thickness, check applied coating uniformity, inspect surface prior to application of the subsequent coating, contamination between each coat and areas requiring repairs.
Inspect all hand tools for surface preparation jobs. Ensure that the specified standards are achieved with regard to surface preparation prior to painting. Inspect the air driven tools used for surface preparation and ensure that work is carried out in accordance with standard safety regulations.
Check daily the condition of steel ambient temperature, air temperature, humidity, dew point, free surface of residual moisture. Ensure that no chemical or oil spillage has occurred. Maintain a daily record of weather conditions.
Report to ADNOC Offshore on all matters concerning various stages of inspection work, materials conformity, equipment, compliance with specifications, evaluating the coating conditions, daily major industrial repainting carried out, report concerning weather conditions, permits, manpower, equipment, method of blasting and coating, timing records, specification numbers, paint batch numbers etc. Complete tests and inspection, thickness record and other aspects concerning the job.
Inspects contractor equipment, inspection tools, work procedure, blasting and coating operations at all areas including vessel internals. Ensure contractors adhere to ADNOC Offshore Safety Regulation.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Coating
NACE CIP-L2 or BGAS Level-2
Education and/or Experience
Completion of Secondary School / Diploma education together with ten years minimum experience in painting works and inspection.
Must be experienced in the use of all inspection tools employed for coating tests. Proven experience in working within industrial painting sites, process plants, offshore installation, storage tanks etc.
Must be proficient in the correct use of Elcometer (351, 345 300and 465), Hygrometric tools, Holiday detector, Wet/Dry Film thickness tools, profile/salt contamination Bresle tests, adhesion tests, cross hatch tests, pig tests, dolly tests etc. at all stage of work.
Must possess a very good knowledge of various types of coatings like offshore coating and different types of abrasives
Good knowledge of written and spoken English. Ability to prepare concise reports and maintain exact records is essential. Must be Computer literate with proficiency MS office particularly Word, Excel and Outlook application.
Age limit: 60 years
Working Conditions
This position is considered OFFSHORE which is characterized as follows.
Outdoors majority of the time on work site, day or night. Some indoor office for reporting.
Requires working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.
Frequently the humidity is above 90%, noise is over 85 decibels and the light is intense/glare.
Potential exposure to open fire/flames/sparks on adjacent work
Exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases at work site
Work surface is stable, height is elevated. Use of ladders and scaffold for some access.
Confined space required but infrequent
