Look here to learn more and see if you may qualify!https://fed-pro.org/public-service/Other Benefits Includes:Work life balanceWorking in a fast-paced environmentProfessional development and training opportunitiesStep based pay planCost of living increasesMarket adjustments4 weeks of paid parental leavePosition Description SummaryUnder direction of the Criminal Services Director, this position exists to coordinate a team of dedicated volunteers and community partners to offer quality programming concentrated on stabilization, self-improvement, and transition back to the community for Detention Center persons.Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential FunctionsContinuously designs, produces, and researches programming and curriculum for incarcerated persons to ensure best practices are implemented;Coordinates class schedules based on the needs of incarcerated persons and ensures a variety of programming;Provides instruction and training as needed;Collaborates with volunteers, the Detention Center’s interdisciplinary team, and others to assess each incarcerated person’s post release needs and the services necessary to meet those needs;Ensures each incarcerated person has a written transition plan;Facilitates referrals to community-based agencies, employment preparation, and housing relying on volunteer connections;Develops and maintains linkages with community-based agencies and support groups that address the needs of current and/or formerly incarcerated persons;Coordinates Peer Support Specialist and volunteer mentors for incarcerated persons prior to release;Recruits, screens, and trains new volunteers including but not limited to personnel from community-based agencies, communities of faith, and local businesses;Facilitates volunteer trainings;Sets up, plans, and supervises volunteers and interns;Works with college/university students to facilitate ongoing training and reflection activities;Plans volunteer appreciation events;Represents the County, the Detention Center, and the Criminal Justice Services Department at public events while speaking about the Detention Center Education and Transition program;Responds to incarcerated person kites and grievances that are program related;Prepares for, attends, and actively participates in weekly Interdisciplinary Team meetings to discuss any special needs regarding the incarcerated persons;Collects feedback from volunteers, incarcerated persons, and Detention Center staff on a regular basis;Evaluates programs and activities on an ongoing basis and makes recommendations to the Detention Captain and Director of Criminal Justice Services;Assists in the planning and development of new policies and procedures including development of new methods of operation, incorporating new technology and new approaches to detention, incarceration, incarcerated person classification and related issues;Assists in estimating budget requirements in preparation of the annual budget for Program Services;Performs a variety of other duties as assigned. This may include completing special projects, attending continuing education and training, and a variety of other functions as needed.Examples of Knowledge Montana Code Annotated;Lewis and Clark County policies and procedures;Criminal Justice Services Department policies and procedures;Detention Center policies and procedures;Trauma sensitive and trauma informed programming;Court system and statutory authority of probation officers;Community referral resources and social services;Criminal justice system at the local and state level including laws and regulations;Case management systems and planning techniques;Crime prevention and reduction of recidivism principles;Restorative Justice practices.Examples of Skills and AbilitiesEstablish and maintain positive working relationships with incarcerated persons, colleagues in the criminal justice system and the general public;Make excellent judgments;Adhere to strict boundaries and professional ethics;Communicate well; orally and in writing;Organize resources and establish priorities;Maintain confidentiality according to law and program guidelines;Maintain accurate records and prepare reports according to prescribed standards;Understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions;Use software programs and apply effectively to work process;Operate basic office machines.Qualifications The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Education, Human Services or other related degrees and the following:Two (2) years of professional experience in a mental health, criminal justice, community provider, teaching, mentoring, and/or treatment setting.Two (2) years of experience in coordination or supervision of a program having interdisciplinary or interagency operation is preferred.Completion of eight (8)-hour Circle of Security Parent Training preferred or ability to complete class in first year of employment.Completion of Detention Center “Mini-Academy” must be completed within first three months of employment.Montana Law Enforcement Academy POST Certificate for Detention and Correction Officers preferred but not required.Physical DemandsMust be able to move or lift documents and materials weighting up to 10 pounds, operate standard office equipment, and attend meetings at offsite locations.
