PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Accommodations Specialist is responsible for administering the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Accommodations program for an assigned property and/or business unit. This position provides support in the implementation of standardized policies and practices, that are associated with the accommodation process related to the administration of the ADA, to create departmental efficiencies and excellent customer service. The Accommodation Specialist works closely with the assigned property’s HR, Corporate Legal, Workers Compensation, and Leave of Absence departments on coordination of requests and communication with employees and management regarding short and long-term ADA accommodations. All duties are to be performed in accordance with property and MGM Resorts policies, practices, and procedures.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facilitate the interactive process with employees seeking a workplace accommodation under the ADA and determine an appropriate course of action based on multiple considerations.
Perform accommodation services to ensure compliance with regulations, Company policies, and standard work to support employee requests for accommodations in safe and productive assignments.
Perform case management and coordinate the accommodation process for end-to-end case management; this includes working with the employee, operations leaders, work location, and other stakeholders.
Provide support and guidance while performing activities related to short term and long term medical-based accommodations for employees at work or returning to work.
Develop transitional work assignments or long-term accommodations within the position based on restrictions and available job tasks.
Communicate the transitional work assignment plan or accommodation to the employee and obtain their agreement.
Educate employees and HR on complicated aspects of the return to work, accommodation, and complex case processes.
Provide guidance, assess risk, resolve issues, and escalate as appropriate for employees, managers, and HR.
Escalate complex issues and cases including the inability to accommodate.
Maintain system records and documentation to ensure accurate and timely information/documentation.
Develop and provide training for employees, managers, HR, and others in the LOA program services.
Consult, coordinate, and partner with HR, Safety, Legal, Payroll, Benefits, team members, and other departments/systems as appropriate.
Identify accommodation trends and recommend appropriate and consistent approaches for the organization.
Implement and administer a job search process for employees that cannot be accommodated.
Ensure Compliance with all state and federal regulations in relation to accommodation of disabilities in the workplace.
Perform other job-related duties as requested.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of federal and state disability laws regarding access for people with disabilities; specifically, ADA and FMLA.
Intermediate experience working with Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Intermediate knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Exceptional communication and organizational skills and supervisor attention to detail
Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Ability to make decisions to ensure compliance with the MGM Resorts International accommodations protocols.
Understanding of disabilities and their impact on a person’s independence and employment opportunities.
Must possess strong communication skills to build sustainable working relationships throughout the organization.
Must possess a proactive relationship style to deal with all issues that may be sensitive in nature.
Must demonstrate ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment; maintain physical stamina and a proper mental attitude to deal effectively with management, employees, and outside contacts.
Ability to work under pressure while meeting deadlines, withstand prolonged standing or walking, manual dexterity and mobility to use computer, access all business entities, and attend to company business within Las Vegas.
Excellent customer service skills.
Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with all business contacts.
Ability to effectively communicate in English, in both oral and written forms.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Associate degree in a related field; or equivalent education and work experience
At least four (4) years of experience working with employees on disability, leave of absence, human resources, or other employee relations function.
Previous experience in providing consultation on disability issues or leaves of absence.
Demonstrated experience managing cases from intake to closure with a high degree of accuracy, resolution, and employee satisfaction

PREFERRED:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or equivalent education and work experience.
Previous experience in Employee Relations and/or benefits.
Previous experience working in a similar resort setting.
Strong practical experience and knowledge of Human Resources operations in the hospitality and/or service industry
